Composer Otto M. Schwarz completed his first Concerto for trumpet in October 2009. Schwarz displays a special knack in writing for this instrument, thanks to his trumpet studies undertaken with Professor Josef Pomberger at the Music Conservatory in Vienna. Concerto for Trumpet No. 1 ‚Trumpet Town’ was commissioned by the police-orchestra of Upper Austria, under the baton of Andreas Schwarzenlander. The work was premiered on 17 November 2009. The soloist for the evening was trumpeter Franz Wagnermeyer, who also studied at the Vienna Conservatory and who currently performs with, amongst others, the international group “Ten of the Best”. It may be surprising to see a fanfare piece commissioned by a Japanese ensemble, since fanfare orchestras are typically found in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg, and also France and Switzerland. Senzoku Gakuen is one of the largest and mostprestigious music universities in Japan, and home to a wide variety of ensembles and orchestras. Since 2006 they have had a fanfare orchestra, which was started by Sotaru Fukaishi, a euphonium teacher who felt further performance opportunity wasneeded for saxhorn instruments. Fukaishi had loved the sound of fanfare orchestras ever since visiting the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland) several years earlier. Jan Van der Roost was involved with this new initiative from the beginning,and they were also joined by Manu Mellaerts for certain projects. The Dean of the music department, Professor Kazuo Tomioka, fully supports the ensemble and commissioned Ostinati. The première took place on June 11th at Maeda Hall inMizonokuchi (Kawasaki) where Senzoku Gakuen is based. The piece opens with an impressive timpani solo, followed by brass and saxophone. The rhythmical pulse remains constant and the music is fiery and assertive in character. A pentatonic melodygradually emerges and the music loses its vehemency and softens. The initial percussion ostinati subsequently recurs and the first section of the piece concludes in a similar mood to the opening. The second movement is sweet and melodic, opening witha long passage for the saxophone family in a minor key. The same theme then appears in the major and is developed upon; the music builds to a majestic orchestral forte, reminiscent of a pipe organ in its sonority. The theme returns in the originalminor key with a change in instrumentation leading the movement to a quiet and peaceful end on a soft E minor chord. The finale starts with percussion: a four-bar pattern is repeated several times over which the movement’s melodic themes areintroduced. These melodic elements are varied and used in different versions and the ostinato idea, which characterizes the entire piece, is highlighted. The theme travels through the orchestra, appearing on various instruments and in variousregisters. It captures the listener’s attention and displays the full range of sound and colour within the fanfare orchestra.

The MG-30 is the professional solution for the guitarist who wants a fantastic sound combined with loop function, drum machine and tuner. The sound processing is based on the NUX TSAC algorithm, which enables the MG-30 to create ultra-realistic analog circuit simulation of some of the most used and popular effects that you can buy today. Effects and amp simulations are controlled by 2 powerful NXP RT 32-bit processors, which drive the MG-30's impressive 1024 sample IR sound resolution with an ultra-low latency of 2 ms, and a dynamic range of a whopping 110 dB. The NUX MG-30 gives you 30 amp simulations that you can choose from and customize. Among the 30 amplifier simulations, we find 25 of the most used and sought-after guitar amplifiers throughout the ages, i.a. various Marshall, Fender and Vox amps as well as Roland, Hiwatt, Soldano, Mesa Boogie and Friedman simulations. In addition, the MG-30 contains two acoustic amp simulations and three bass amp simulations. You customize the sound with eight different speaker cabinets, eight microphones and 3 different microphone positions. The effects are divided into 8 blocks, where you can choose between 5 different wah effects, 3 compressors, noise reduction, 12 distortion/overdrive, 4 equalizers, 13 modulation effects, 7 delay effects and 5 different reverbs. Added to that is the MG-30's extensive Looper function. 4 the cable method You can achieve a significant improvement in your guitar sound if you take care to separate delay/reverb and modulation effects from overdrive, distortion and compressor effects. Delay, reverb, chorus, flanger and other similar effects simply sound better if the effect signal is passed through the amplifier's effect loops, while distortion, compressor and boost effects sound better if they are placed first in the signal chain - before the signal enters the amplifier. By using the 4 cable method, the MG-30 makes it possible to place the distortion effects first in the signal chain, while the delay/reverb and modulation effects have their own output and input, so they can be integrated into your amp's effects loop where they belong. In this way, you get the opportunity to create the same type of signal routing that you would use in larger rack and studio effects setups. The first time I heard Bach's Goldberg Variations was in the movie Silence of the lambs, in the early 1990s. I noticed the beautiful background music in one of the scenes, but at that time I didn't know what it was. A few years later, when I was studiying at the Grieg Academy, I got to know the entire piece. For me, this is a piece of music which I can listen to countless times. I think it sounds as fresh today as it did more than 15 years ago and it never ceases to inspire me. Both Bach's composition and Glenn Gould's famous 1955 recording (which was the first one I heard) still makes a great impression on me. Before Gould recorded it at age 22, it wasn't a highly ranked piece amongst pianists and Bach was by many viewed as a bit old-fashioned. The young Canadian turned all this around. He managed to portray Bach in a reformed way, producing fine nuances in phrasing and making the many layers in Bach's music more transparent than anyone before him. Thus he plunged both himself and Bach (back) onto the international music scene. When The Norwegian Band Federation (NMF) asked me to write the test piece for NM in 2012, it was only natural for me to use the Goldberg Variations as a starting point and inspiration for my work. Since I was a teenager at NMF's summer courses in the mid eighties I've always listened to many different styles of music. Growing up in Sunnmøre with the Brazz Brothers as teachers and mentors, jazz-, pop/rock- and folk music were early on a natural part of my musical background. I also have my classical education from the Grieg Academy on trumpet. As the title of my piece implies, I've wanted to bring Bach to the present and put his music into various modern musical landscapes. I think you can bring about a special kind of energy when music from different genres are mixed and I've tried to do this by mixing Bach with artists and musical styles from the present. In Goldberg 2012, the music is often constructed by several layers, which in a way are living parallel musical lives. They are seemingly moving or floating freely, almost unaware of each other, but bound together by the same basic pulse. The rythms, however, are often notated on a different rythmic subdivision level than the usual 8th- or 16th note levels. By doing this, I hope to achieve transparent sounds that rythmically are perceived as more free and detached from each other. In large sections of the piece, pop/jazz is fusioned with elements from Bach. I guess you could have this little scene as a synopsis for the piece: picture a group of musicians meeting: some are classical performers, some are jazz. They start to improvise together, each in their own voice or musical dialect and I'm sort of in the middle, trying to write down what they are playing. This is what I feel much of Goldberg 2012 is about. The foundation of the piece, in addition to Bach and references from pop/jazz music, lies also in my own material. This material, basically two chords, is heard in it's purest form in the 1st movement. I use these chords to create scales, new chords and different motifs which contribute to blend together the different moods of the piece. It has not been my intention to copy Bach's form (theme and 30 variations), but rather to use the bits and pieces that I like the most as an inspiration for my own variations. The 1st movement, Aria 2, is for my 3rd son, Olav, who was born on the 21st of April 2011, and the 5th movement, From long ago, is dedicated to the memory of my father, Svein J. Effekter Cerberus erbjuder 16 olika effekter, som är uppdelade i 4 sektioner - drive, dist, mod och delay. Drive-sektionen erbjuder en klassisk "Tube Screamer"-liknande overdrive, medan dist innehåller en distorsion inspirerad av det klassiska brittiska gitarrljudet. Modsektionen innehåller Cerberus-pedalens moduleringseffekter, såsom tremolo, phaser, U-vibe och 3 olika choruseffekter. Fördröjningssektionen låter dig välja mellan 3 olika ekoeffekter. Du får en klassisk 1960-talsbandfördröjning med en fördröjningstid på upp till 550 ms och en varm och organisk hinkbrigadfördröjning med en fördröjningstid på upp till 400 ms. Om du använder båda utgångarna kan du aktivera eller avaktivera högtalarsimuleringen genom att trycka på Speaker Cab Sim-knappen. Dessutom finns en hörlursutgång, som också är högtalarsimulerad. Via programvaran Cerberus Editor får du även möjlighet att ladda ner IR-filer, inklusive tredjeparts IR-filer för Cerberus och integrera dessa i din effektuppställning.
