The first major book on the post-punk legends! Wire were the seventies band who perhaps did more than any other to usher in the post-punk age. Author Paul Lester has interviewed the four original members of Wire - Colin Newman, Graham Lewis, Robert Gotobed and Bruce Gilbert - as well as many of their producers and collaborators. Charts the band's history from their days at Watford Art College through their abrasive encounters with punk audiences hostile to their groundbreaking material on albums like Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154. and their 2008 release Object 47. Those albums were to exert an enormous influence on subsequent generations of alternative rock musicians. To bands as diverse as Black Flag, Blur, R.E.M. and My Bloody Valentine, Wire's expansion of the sonic possibilities of rock proved highly significant. Lester has also followed the band's story as it expanded into a melee of break-ups, reformations, parallel projects and solo forays, culminating in their current status as a sort of British Velvet Underground: cultish and modest-selling but uncompromising and immeasurably influential.

These 12 Divertimentos were published in 1759 by the prominent Scottish composer James Oswald . These pieces were originally composed for the popular wire-strung cittern known then as the "guittar". The body of work was intended to help meet the demand for easy to intermediate solo guittar music. Oswald 's 12 Divertimentos have been arranged here by John Goodin for the modern Mandolin in both standard notation and tablature, each piece includes three or four short movements full of pleasant melodies and interesting ideas. Whereas the original compositions were published in the key native to the guittar tuning (an open C major chord), this book offers the music in a variety of Mandolin-friendly keys. These transpositions adhere to Oswald 's original intent that the music be easy to play and pleasant to hear. While suitable for teaching and performance these divertimentos are, above all, fun and satisfying to study and play.

In this unique collection, multi-instrumentalist Rob MacKillop presents 30 airs and dances from Scotland, Ireland and England transcribed for the modern guitar in open-D tuning (DADF AD). Although conceived for fingerstyle playing, most of these traditional, Classical and Baroque pieces are also playable with a pick.During the mid to late 18th century, a wire-strung instrument which could be described as a cross between a guitar and a cittern appeared in Britain. With the exception of the publications in Edinburgh by Robert Bremmer (c. 1713 – 89), most period writings refer to this instrument as the guittar. In providing extensive historical and performance notes onthis music, the author has adopted this spelling. While derived principally from the publications by Scottish guittarists Robert Bremmer and James Oswald (1710 – 69), MacKillop discovered additional Scottish publications and manuscripts in The National Library of Scotland and even more manuscripts in the uncatalogued library of Blair Castle in Perthshire, Scotland.Written in standard notation and tablature, this book brings a particularly uncommon repertoire to light with an exceptional downloadable recording.
