Daisy Bond/Ian Faraday: Bethlehem's Buzzin'

Daisy Bond/Ian Faraday: Bethlehem's Buzzin'

Nativity musical for 4-7 years (KS1)Running time 45 minutes approx. This witty yet sensitive adaptation of the traditional nativity story is a delightful reminder of the true message of Christmas. Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel are three less-than-honest market stall holders, hoping to cash-in on the large number of visitors arriving in Bethlehem. Whilst giving it the ?hard sell? they encounter a tired couple on a donkey, a group of excitable shepherds and three mysterious visitors from the east, and are led to a lowly stable where they experience something that will change their lives forever!Plot summaryJacob, Rebecca and Samuel are stall-holders in Bethlehem?s busy, bustling market. However, always looking to make easy money, their way of doing business is a little less-than-honest! They shamelessly sell cheap and fake items, passing them off as genuine, quality goods! One day, lots of visitors arrive in town (song ? Bethlehem?s Buzzin?) and the three friends are eager to cash-in! Convinced they?ll be ?rolling in it? by the end of the day, (song ? Business Is Booming) they give it the hard sell! After a day?s record-breaking takings, just when they think it?s time to pack up, a tired man and woman (Mary and Joseph) approach Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel, (song ? A Long, Long Way) and ask if they know of a place to stay. Annoyed that the couple haven?t come to shop, the friends reply that they can lead them to a nearby inn, but will charge them to do so! As Mary is about to have a baby, they accept the offer and hand over what little money they have on arrival at the inn. However, it?s yet another dishonest trick. As the friends scarper with the money, Mary and Joseph discover there is no room at the inn, and the baby has to be born in a stable. (song ? A Baby Is Born Tonight)Back at their stall, about to pack up for the second time, Rebecca notices a bright light on the hillside. This is followed by the arrival of an excited group of shepherds, whom the three friends think have come to do some late-night shopping! However, to their disappointment, the shepherds tell them of a wondrous visit they?ve had by a host of angels, who?ve told them to come to Bethlehem (song ? Hurry Down The Hillside) to find a baby born in a stable. Guessing which stable they mean, the friends offer to lead the shepherds to it?for a price! The shepherds decline the offer, choosing instead to follow the star that the angels said would show them the way.About to pack up again, the stall-holders then notice three very distinguished-looking gentlemen, who look like they have a bit of money to spend! However, they are disappointed to hear that these visitors have also come looking for the baby (song ? Follow A Star), and not to part with their cash! Neither will they be taking up Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel?s ?kind? offer to lead them to the stable for a small fee, and they leave!Curious as to why all these people are so keen to visit this baby, the friends decide to go and see for themselves. On approaching the stable they are overwhelmed with a joyful feeling, and when they are invited to kneel by the manger something changes in their hearts forever! They recognise they have led dishonest lives, and promise to change for the sake of this baby boy. They stop cheating and swindling and instead set up a new business ? giving guided tours of Bethlehem to visitors, taking in al

Janet Grierson: Gold - The Tale Of King Midas

Janet Grierson: Gold - The Tale Of King Midas

All year round musical for 7-11 yearsRunning time 60 minutes approx.Telling the tale of Midas, the original 'King of Bling', this entertaining new musical delivers all the glitter, glamour and sparkle you could hope for, with eleven memorable, show-stopping songs, and a fun-packed script. Laugh along as the hapless, greedy king with the golden touch proceeds to squander a very special gift. As an extended cast of characters watch in despair, Midas indulges his 'desire to acquire', but ultimately learns a very important lesson ? some things in life are far more precious than simply being loaded!Plot SummaryTo the opening bars of the first song (Such A Wealthy Man) King Midas regally enters and sits on his elegant throne, ready to be waited on hand and foot. Through the narrator's words and ?catty? jibes of his courtiers, we learn of his immense wealth and obsession with all things gold. His love of the other finer things in life, namely food and clothes, are also made apparent through the demands he places on his royal chefs (Song ? We Cook And We Bake) and seamstresses (Song ? Measuring And Cutting), who pander to his every whim. However, when required by his financial advisors to discuss important issues of government, he dismisses them, preferring to concentrate on counting his own stash of gold coins! (Song ? So Much Money)The Queen and Princess Marigold are desperate for Midas to be the loving, attentive husband and father he used to be (Song ? Day After Day), and his once-loyal subjects grow angry that their king?s obsession with gold has led to his neglecting them too, and their crumbling city. (Song ? Our Beautiful City) As things go from bad to worse a stranger visits Midas, offering to grant him one wish, in the hope that he will use it to become a wiser and more caring ruler. Although advised by his wise men and family to wish for something for the benefit of everyone (Song ? One Wish), Midas famously asks that everything he touches turns to gold! (Song ? Gold)Delighted with his new powers (Song ? The Golden Touch), he proceeds to gleefully turn every object in his palace and gardens into gold ? even his roses, much to the bewilderment of his gardeners! He nevertheless soon realises that it is more of a curse than a blessing, when he unwittingly touches Princess Marigold and she becomes a golden statue! With nobody daring to come near him (Song ? Beware), a lonely, distraught Midas begs forgiveness from the stranger who granted his wish. After a humiliating bathe in magical waters, the King is relieved of his golden touch, and vows to make amends for his greed and foolishness... much to the relief of everyone! (Song ? Turn It Around)

Paris, a handsome but sly Trojan, is asked to make the tough decision on their behalf. Each goddess offers him a fabulous reward if he chooses in her favour (song - Pick Me, Paris), but it is Aphrodite's promise to give him the most beautiful mortal woman, Helen of Sparta, which clinches it. It works, and as Achilles excitedly gets ready for a romantic liaison Paris shoots an arrow into his vulnerable heel. The Greeks are overcome with grief at the death of their top man (song - Always And Forever), and revenge is swift. Philoctetes slays Paris in a duel, releasing Helen from her trance-induced love, and with her help secret plans are made for the Greeks' invasion of Troy. The Trojans are curious as to what the hammering sounds are in the Greeks' camp (song - Chop-Chop, Brother), and surprised to see their enemy's fleet of ships sailing away from the shores of Troy. On discovering a huge wooden horse which is left, they believe, as a gift from their fleeing foes, they rejoice in their supposed victory and bring it into the city. As night falls, the heroes emerge from the belly of the horse and massacre the entire Trojan population in its sleep! However, their wits are no match for Gretel's, and she and her brother make a comical escape. They run deeper into the forest, where things get a little creepier, and talking trees warn them that 'this is no place for children!' (song - This Bad, Bad Place). Finally, exhausted and hungry, the children stumble across an enchanting cottage (song - The Gingerbread House), built from every delicious confectionary imaginable. Hansel is imprisoned while Gretel must 'force-feed' him in order to, as the old witch puts it, 'fatten him up' for the pot! (song - Better Than One Is Two).As the wicked woman makes final preparations for her big meal (song - Dinner At The Double), it's down to the brave Gretel to once again save the day. Using her cunning and daring she literally 'closes the lid' on the old woman's dining plans and escapes with her brother! After a joyful reunion with their father, the children deservedly celebrate with the biggest, party ever! (song - Finale).
