Routledge Revivals: Understanding Interaction in Central Australia (1985) An Ethnomethodological Study of Australian Aboriginal People First published in 1985 this book gives an intimate account of the cultural-political conflict between Australian Aboriginal people and Anglo-Australians presenting the Australian social world from the perspective of the Aboriginal person. Adopting a rigorous ethnomethodological analysis and the techniques of ethnolinguistics Liberman looks at the interactional detail of the everyday life of traditionally oriented Australian Aboriginals. He uses tape transcripts of actual interaction to identify chief characteristics of Aboriginal social life. Liberman goes on to show how differences in systems of interaction have influenced relations between Australian Aboriginals and Anglo-Australians. With its account of the politics of cultural conflict in a multi-cultural environment this book is an apt extension of ethnomethodological issues to political concerns. It also exposes Aboriginal perceptions of Anglo-Australian/Aboriginal interaction to a degree not previously achieved in any sociological or anthropological study. As such this book will be a valuable case study to students of social anthropology race relations intercultural communication and sociolinguistics. | Routledge Revivals: Understanding Interaction in Central Australia (1985) An Ethnomethodological Study of Australian Aboriginal People GBP 32.99 1
Language Interaction and National Identity Studies in the Social Organisation of National Identity in Talk-in-Interaction Contemporary political and public discourse has come alive with the issues and conflicts surrounding questions of national identity. Despite the widespread sociological attention it has drawn as a result most studies of national identity have been conducted at considerable analytical distance from the lived reality of national identity talk. This collection brings together the work of contemporary researchers situating the talk and interaction in which national identities are actually expressed and used. The book presents detailed investigations of how persons actually use national identity in their talk the interactional uses to which such expressions are put and the interactional consequences of such identity talk. The studies are based on transcribed tape recordings of naturally occurring talk across a variety of different countries and settings illuminating not only situated national identity talk as a phenomenon in its own right but also providing empirically grounded research for traditional sociological theorising about issues of integration devolution and exclusion. | Language Interaction and National Identity Studies in the Social Organisation of National Identity in Talk-in-Interaction GBP 42.99 1
On Animation The Director's Perspective Vol 1 Be a fly on the wall as industry leaders Bill Kroyer and Tom Sito take us through insightful face-to-face interviews revealing in these two volumes the journeys of 23 world-class directors as they candidly share their experiences and personal views on the process of making feature animated films. The interviews were produced and edited by Ron Diamond. Your job is not to be the one with the answers. You should be the one that gets the answers. That’s your job. You need to make friends and get to know your crew. These folks are your talent your bag of tricks. And that’s where you’re going to find answers to the big problems - Andrew Stanton It’s hard. Yet the pain you go through to get what you need for your film enriches you and it enriches the film. – Brenda Chapman Frank and Ollie always used to say that great character animation contains movement that is generated by the character’s thought process. It can’t be plain movement. – John Lasseter The beauty of clay is that it doesn’t have to be too polished or too smooth and sophisticated. You don’t want it to be mechanical and lifeless. – Nick Park The good thing about animation is that tape is very cheap. Let the actor try things. This is where animation gets to play with spontaneity. You want to capture that line as it has never been said before. And most likely if you asked the actor to do it again he or she just can’t repeat that exact performance. But you got it. – Ron Clements | On Animation The Director's Perspective Vol 1 GBP 43.99 1

Influence of Temperature on Microelectronics and System Reliability A Physics of Failure Approach This book raises the level of understanding of thermal design criteria. It provides the design team with sufficient knowledge to help them evaluate device architecture trade-offs and the effects of operating temperatures. The author provides readers a sound scientific basis for system operation at realistic steady state temperatures without reliability penalties. Higher temperature performance than is commonly recommended is shown to be cost effective in production for life cycle costs. The microelectronic package considered in the book is assumed to consist of a semiconductor device with first-level interconnects that may be wirebonds flip-chip or tape automated bonds; die attach; substrate; substrate attach; case; lid; lid seal; and lead seal. The temperature effects on electrical parameters of both bipolar and MOSFET devices are discussed and models quantifying the temperature effects on package elements are identified. Temperature-related models have been used to derive derating criteria for determining the maximum and minimum allowable temperature stresses for a given microelectronic package architecture. The first chapter outlines problems with some of the current modeling strategies. The next two chapters present microelectronic device failure mechanisms in terms of their dependence on steady state temperature temperature cycle temperature gradient and rate of change of temperature at the chip and package level. Physics-of-failure based models used to characterize these failure mechanisms are identified and the variabilities in temperature dependence of each of the failure mechanisms are characterized. Chapters 4 and 5 describe the effects of temperature on the performance characteristics of MOS and bipolar devices. Chapter 6 discusses using high-temperature stress screens including burn-in for high-reliability applications. The burn-in conditions used by some manufacturers are examined and a physics-of-failure approach is described. Managing Global Supply Chains Contemporary Global Challenges in Supply Chain Management What are the key factors affecting global supply chains today and how can we manage them? Starting from the concept that 'there is no point driving a Ferrari in a traffic jam' Ron Basu provides practical tools and techniques of good supply chain management to add value deliver cost reduction and improve customer satisfaction. This new edition specifically focuses on seven contemporary challenges that have affected global supply chain management. Recent disruptions to global supply chains created by COVID-19 and the Ukraine conflict have resulted in significant geographical shifts in supply and demand. High inflation and the cost of living crisis have in turn created problems for finely-tuned global supply chains. The economic and business environment has also become more demanding due in part to political pressures including nationalism and Brexit: for example supply chain pressures caused by Brexit have resulted in increased red tape. Other factors have had a gradual and positive effect such as climate change initiatives Industry 4. 0 and the digital revolution. The issues that affect the performance of global supply chains are sometimes interrelated but all of them really matter because businesses have become increasingly global. This book addresses these challenges and explores how to deal with them. In addition there are new and updated chapters on lean and agile supply chains e-business emerging markets sustainability and green issues global supply chains for services and event management retail management and major project management. Managing Global Supply Chains is a practical and highly readable text with real-life examples and excellent coverage. It is an ideal companion for post-experience business students learning professionals and anyone interested in supply chain management. | Managing Global Supply Chains Contemporary Global Challenges in Supply Chain Management GBP 59.99 1
Small Signal Audio Design Small Signal Audio Design is a highly practical handbook providing an extensive repertoire of circuits that can be assembled to make almost any type of audio system. The publication of Electronics for Vinyl has freed up space for new material (though this book still contains a lot on moving-magnet and moving-coil electronics) and this fully revised third edition offers wholly new chapters on tape machines guitar electronics and variable-gain amplifiers plus much more. A major theme is the use of inexpensive and readily available parts to obtain state-of-the-art performance for noise distortion crosstalk frequency response accuracy and other parameters. Virtually every page reveals nuggets of specialized knowledge not found anywhere else. For example you can improve the offness of a fader simply by adding a resistor in the right place- if you know the right place. Essential points of theory that bear on practical audio performance are lucidly and thoroughly explained with the mathematics kept to an absolute minimum. Self’s background in design for manufacture ensures he keeps a wary eye on the cost of things. This book features the engaging prose style familiar to readers of his other books. You will learn why mercury-filled cables are not a good idea the pitfalls of plating gold on copper and what quotes from Star Trek have to do with PCB design. Learn how to: make amplifiers with apparently impossibly low noise design discrete circuitry that can handle enormous signals with vanishingly low distortion use humble low-gain transistors to make an amplifier with an input impedance of more than 50 megohms transform the performance of low-cost-opamps build active filters with very low noise and distortion make incredibly accurate volume controls make a huge variety of audio equalisers make magnetic cartridge preamplifiers that have noise so low it is limited by basic physics by using load synthesis sum switch clip compress and route audio signals be confident that phase perception is not an issue This expanded and updated third edition contains extensive new material on optimising RIAA equalisation electronics for ribbon microphones summation of noise sources defining system frequency response loudness controls and much more. Including all the crucial theory but with minimal mathematics Small Signal Audio Design is the must-have companion for anyone studying researching or working in audio engineering and audio electronics.
