MIMO Power Line Communications Narrow and Broadband Standards EMC and Advanced Processing

One of the first publications of its kind in the exciting field of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) power line communications (PLC) MIMO Power Line Communications: Narrow and Broadband Standards EMC and Advanced Processing contains contributions from experts in industry and academia making it practical enough to provide a solid understanding of how PLC technologies work yet scientific enough to form a base for ongoing R&D activities. This book is subdivided into five thematic parts. Part I looks at narrow- and broadband channel characterization based on measurements from around the globe. Taking into account current regulations and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) part II describes MIMO signal processing strategies and related capacity and throughput estimates. Current narrow- and broadband PLC standards and specifications are described in the various chapters of part III. Advanced PLC processing options are treated in part IV drawing from a wide variety of research areas such as beamforming/precoding time reversal multi-user processing and relaying. Lastly part V contains case studies and field trials where the advanced technologies of tomorrow are put into practice today. Suitable as a reference or a handbook MIMO Power Line Communications: Narrow and Broadband Standards EMC and Advanced Processing features self-contained chapters with extensive cross-referencing to allow for a flexible reading path. | MIMO Power Line Communications Narrow and Broadband Standards EMC and Advanced Processing

Analytical Chemistry from Laboratory to Process Line

Analytical Chemistry from Laboratory to Process Line

This book highlights many of the latest developments and trends in engineering chemistry research and describes the respective tools to characterize and predict properties and behavior of materials. The book provides original theoretical and important experimental results which use non-routine methodologies and presents chapters on novel applications of more familiar experimental techniques and analyses of composite problems which indicate the need for new experimental approaches presented. Technical and technological development demands the creation of new materials that are stronger more reliable and more durable i. e. materials with new properties. This volume presents new research that will help lead to new and better materials. Each chapter describes the principle of the respective method as well as the detailed procedures of experiments with examples of actual applications presented. Thus readers will be able to apply the concepts as described in the book to their own experiments. Experts in each of the areas covered have reviewed the state of the art thus creating a book that will be useful to readers at all levels in academic industry and research institutions. Engineers polymer scientists and technicians will find this volume useful in selecting approaches and techniques applicable to characterizing molecular compositional rheological and thermodynamic properties of elastomers and plastics. | Analytical Chemistry from Laboratory to Process Line

Pricing in General Insurance

Pricing in General Insurance

Based on the syllabus of the actuarial profession courses on general insurance pricing – with additional material inspired by the author’s own experience as a practitioner and lecturer – Pricing in General Insurance Second Edition presents pricing as a formalised process that starts with collecting information about a particular policyholder or risk and ends with a commercially informed rate. The first edition of the book proved very popular among students and practitioners with its pragmatic approach informal style and wide-ranging selection of topics including: Background and context for pricing Process of experience rating ranging from traditional approaches (burning cost analysis) to more modern approaches (stochastic modelling) Exposure rating for both property and casualty products Specialised techniques for personal lines (e. g. GLMs) reinsurance and specific products such as credit risk and weather derivatives General-purpose techniques such as credibility multi-line pricing and insurance optimisation The second edition is a substantial update on the first edition including: New chapter on pricing models: their structure development calibration and maintenance New chapter on rate change calculations and the pricing cycle Substantially enhanced treatment of exposure rating increased limit factors burning cost analysis Expanded treatment of triangle-free techniques for claim count development Improved treatment of premium building and capital allocation Expanded treatment of machine learning Enriched treatment of rating factor selection and the inclusion of generalised additive models The book delivers a practical introduction to all aspects of general insurance pricing and is aimed at students of general insurance and actuarial science as well as practitioners in the field. It is complemented by online material such as spreadsheets which implement the techniques described in the book solutions to problems a glossary and other appendices – increasing the practical value of the book.

Crime and Punishment in Early Modern Germany Courts and Adjudicatory Practices in Frankfurt am Main 1562–1696

Crime and Punishment in Early Modern Germany Courts and Adjudicatory Practices in Frankfurt am Main 1562–1696

Frankfurt am Main in common with other imperial German cities enjoyed a large degree of legal autonomy during the early modern period and produced a unique and rich body of criminal archives. In particular Frankfurt’s Strafenbuch which records all criminal sentences between 1562 and 1696 provides a fascinating insight into contemporary penal trends. Drawing on this and other rich resources Dr. Boes reveals shifting and fluid attitudes towards crime and punishment and how these were conditioned by issues of gender class and social standing within the city’s establishment. She attributes a significant role in this process to the steady proliferation of municipal advocates jurists trained in Roman Law who wielded growing legal and penal prerogatives. Over the course of the book it is demonstrated how the courts took an increasingly hard line with select groups of people accused of criminal behavior and the open manner with which advocates exercised cultural religious racial gender and sexual-orientation repressions. Parallel with this however is identified a trend of marked leniency towards soldiers who enjoyed an increasingly privileged place within the judicial system. In light of this discrepancy between the treatment of civilians and soldiers the advocates’ actions highlight the emergence and spread of a distinct military judicial culture and Frankfurt’s city council’s contribution to the quasi-militarization of a civilian court. By highlighting the polarized and changing ways the courts dealt with civilian and military criminals a fuller picture is presented not just of Frankfurt’s sentencing and penal practices but of broader attitudes within early modern Germany to issues of social position and cultural identity. | Crime and Punishment in Early Modern Germany Courts and Adjudicatory Practices in Frankfurt am Main 1562–1696

Methods in Product Design New Strategies in Reengineering

Methods in Product Design New Strategies in Reengineering

As industries adopt consumer-focused product development strategies they should offer broader product ranges in shorter design times and the processes that can manufacture in arbitrary lot sizes. In addition they would need to apply state-of-the-art methods and tools to easily conduct early product design and development trade-off analysis among competing objectives. Methods in Product Design: New Strategies in Reengineering supplies insights into the methods and techniques that enable implementing a consumer-focused product design philosophy by integrating design and development capabilities with intelligent computer-based systems. The book defines customer focused design and discusses ways to assess changing demands and sources and delves into what is needed to successfully manufacture goods in a demanding market. It reviews proven methods for assessing customer need. Then after showing how changing needs impact the reengineering of products it explains how change can be efficiently achieved. It details how IT advances and technology support customer-focused product development discusses cutting-edge mass customization principles that maximize cost-effective production and illustrates how to implement effective predictive maintenance policies. Methods in Product Design: New Strategies in Reengineering provides methods state-of-the-art technologies and new strategies for customer-focused product design and development that allow organizations to quickly respond to the demanding global marketplace. | Methods in Product Design New Strategies in Reengineering
