Phylonyms A Companion to the PhyloCode Phylonyms is an implementation of PhyloCode which is a set of principles rules and recommendations governing phylogenetic nomenclature. Nearly 300 clades - lineages of organisms - are defined by reference to hypotheses of phylogenetic history rather than by taxonomic ranks and types. This volume will document the Real World uses of PhyloCode and will govern and apply to the names of clades while species names will still be governed by traditional codes. Key Features Provides clear regulations for implementing new guidelines for naming lineages of organisms incorporates expressly evolutionary and phylogenetic principles Works with existing codes of nomenclature Eliminates the reliance on rank-based classification in favor of phylogenetic relationships Related Titles: Rieppel O. Apocalypse Now? Reflections on Faith in a Time of Terror How may people of faith respond wisely constructively and courageously to the challenges of a time of terror? How might religious reasons in public debate be a force for reconciliation rather than violence and hatred? In a world in which religious arguments and religious motivations play such a huge public role there is an urgent responsibility for interpreting what is happening and engaging with religious views which are commonly regarded as alien threatening or dangerous. In Apocalypse Now? Duncan Forrester argues that disorders and atrocities which include the Gulag the Holocaust 9/11 the Afghanistan and Iraq wars and the Tsunami disaster have shown us that we stand not at the end of history but in the midst of an apocalyptic age of terror which has striking similarities to the time in which Christianity was born. Moving between two times of terror - the early Centuries of Christianity and today - Forrester asks how religious motivations can play a positive role in the midst of conflicts and disasters. Reading the 'signs of the times' to try to understand what is happening in today's age of terror Forrester argues that there are huge resources in the Christian tradition that can be productively deployed for a more constructive and faithful response. We are at a turning point - this is a book which should be read. | Apocalypse Now? Reflections on Faith in a Time of Terror GBP 180.00 1

The Poems of Robert Browning: Volume Five The Ring and the Book Books 1-6 The Ring and the Book published serially in 1868–9 is one of the most daring and innovative poems in the English language. The story is based on the trial of an Italian nobleman Guido Franceschini for the murder of his wife Pompilia in Rome in 1698. Browning’s discovery of the ‘old yellow book’ a bundle of legal documents and letters relating to the trial on a second-hand market stall in Florence sparked an imaginative engagement with this sordid tale of domestic cruelty adultery and greed which grew through four years of arduous labour into an epic peopled not by gods and warriors but by concrete recognisably human beings. Fusing the technique of the dramatic monologue the form he had made his own with the grandeur of classical epic and the vivid realism of the modern novel Browning created a unique hybrid form that allowed him not only to bring to life an entire historical period but also to reflect on the process of artistic creation itself – the forging of the golden ‘ring’ of the poem from the ‘pure crude fact’ of its historical original. This edition comprising volumes 5 and 6 in the acclaimed Longman Annotated English Poets edition of Browning’s poems does full justice to the scope and depth of Browning’s achievement. The headnote in volume 5 gives an authoritative account of the poem’s composition publication sources and reception making use of hitherto unpublished letters and textual material. In addition to giving readers help where needed with historical and linguistic comprehension the notes track Browning’s formidable range of allusion from the most erudite to the most vulgar. The appendices in volume 6 present a selection from the original sources a list of variants from extant proofs and key passages from Browning’s fascinating and revealing correspondence with one of the earliest readers of the poem Julia Wedgwood. The aim is to enable readers not just to understand the poem as an object of study but to take pleasure in its abounding intellectual and emotional energies. | The Poems of Robert Browning: Volume Five The Ring and the Book Books 1-6 GBP 205.00 1
Principles of Risk Analysis Decision Making Under Uncertainty In every decision problem there are things we know and things we do not know.
