Eco-Warriors Understanding the Radical Environmental Movement Updated Edition Eco-Warriors was the first in-depth look at the people actions history and philosophies behind the radical environmental movement. Focusing on the work of Earth First! the Sea Shepherds Greenpeace and the Animal Liberation Front among others Rik Scarce told exciting and sometimes frightening tales of front-line warriors defending an Earth they see as being in environmental peril. While continuing to study these movements as a Ph. D. student Scarce was jailed for contempt of court for refusing to divulge his sources to prosecutors eager to thwart these groups activities. In this updated edition Scarce brings the trajectory of this movement up to date including material on the Earth Liberation Front and provides current resources for all who wish to learn more about one of the most dynamic and confrontational political movements of our time. Literate captivating and informative this is also an ideal volume for classes on environmentalism social movements or contemporary politics. | Eco-Warriors Understanding the Radical Environmental Movement Updated Edition GBP 200.00 1
Diradicaloids π-Conjugated molecules with an even number of π-electrons usually have a closed-shell ground state. However recent studies have demonstrated that a certain type of molecules could show open-shell singlet ground state and display diradical-like (diradicaloid) behavior. Their electronic structure can be understood in terms of the “diradical character” and “aromaticity” concepts. They display very different electronic properties from traditional closed-shell π-conjugated molecules and could be used as next-generation molecular materials. This book provides a comprehensive review on the chemistry physics and material applications of open-shell singlet diradicaloids. Particularly it elaborates the fundamental structure–diradical character–electronic property relationships both theoretically and experimentally. The book has been written by leading scientists in the field from Japan Germany Spain Italy China and Singapore. GBP 193.00 1

The Routledge Handbook of Refugee Narratives This Handbook presents a transnational and interdisciplinary study of refugee narratives broadly defined. Interrogating who can be considered a refugee and what constitutes a narrative the thirty-eight chapters included in this collection encompass a range of forcibly displaced subjects a mix of geographical and historical contexts and a variety of storytelling modalities. Analyzing novels poetry memoirs comics films photography music social media data graffiti letters reports eco-design video games archival remnants and ethnography the individual chapters counter dominant representations of refugees as voiceless victims. Addressing key characteristics and thematics of refugee narratives this Handbook examines how refugee cultural productions are shaped by and in turn shape socio-political landscapes. It will be of interest to researchers teachers students and practitioners committed to engaging refugee narratives in the contemporary moment. Dryland Horticulture Sustainable livelihood security of resource poor farmers is the top priority for the nation today. However there is wide gap in productivity of various horticultural commodities among different eco-regions where horticulture can play significant role particularly in arid and semi arid regions it is far below than the potential productivity. Hence sustained and steady growth in rural income is critical for positive impact on living standard of various stakeholders. Therefore an appropriate strategy needs to be devised for such climatically vulnerable regions. The net income of farmers can surely be increased by efficient management of nutrient water and agri-input integrated horticulture based farming system better market price realization post harvest management and value addition integration of secondary enterprises and thereby improving productivity of arid and semi-arid horticultural crops. In this book several such interventions are given in the form of various chapters which will be of immense use improving the productivity and profitability of horticultural commodities. Agricultural Biocatalysis Biological and Chemical Applications Agricultural biocatalysis is of immense scientific interest nowadays owing to its increasing importance in the efforts for more sustainable agriculture while optimizing environmental impacts. Plant compatibility is essential for developing eco-friendly and sustainable microbial products. Therefore our search for novel technologies ought to be in the foreground for which a thorough understanding of biochemical processes applications of agricultural enzymes traits and viruses should get the highest priority. Volumes 8 to 10 in this series compile the recent research on agricultural biocatalysis by interdisciplinary teams from international institutes for chemistry biochemistry biotechnology and materials and chemical engineering who have been investigating agricultural-biocatalytic topics related to biochemical conversions or bioremediation and modern biological and chemical applications exemplified by the use of selected and highly innovative agricultural enzymes traits and viruses. The editors are prominent researchers in agrochemistry and theoretical biophysical chemistry and these three volumes are useful references for the students and researchers in the fields of agrochemistry biochemistry biology biophysical chemistry natural product chemistry materials and drug design. Volume 10 covers the research on biological control plant uptake and plant growth aspects plant stress including genome editing in plants and selected agrochemical classes as well as the importance of modern chiral agrochemicals. | Agricultural Biocatalysis Biological and Chemical Applications GBP 270.00 1
The Routledge Companion to Gender and Science Fiction The Routledge Companion to Gender and Science Fiction is the first large-scale reference work of its kind critically assessing the relations of gender and genre in science fiction (SF) especially—but not exclusively—as explored in speculative art by women and LGBTQ+ artists across the world. This global volume builds upon the traditions of interdisciplinary inquiry by connecting established topics in gender studies and science fiction studies with emergent ideas from researchers in different media. Taken together they challenge conventional generic boundaries; provide new ways of approaching familiar texts; recover lost artists and introduce new ones; connect the revival of old hate-based politics with the increasing visibility of imagined futures for all; and show how SF stories about new kinds of gender relations inspire new models of artistic technoscientific and political practice. Their chapters are grouped into five conversations—about the history of gender and genre theoretical frameworks subjectivities medias and transmedialities and transtemporalities—that are central to discussions of gender and SF in the current moment. A range of both emerging and established names in media literature and cultural studies engage with a huge diversity of topics including eco-criticism animal studies cyborg and posthumanist theory masculinity critical race studies Indigenous futurisms Black girlhood and gaming. This is an essential resource for students and scholars studying gender sexuality and/or science fiction. GBP 190.00 1
The Routledge Handbook of Ecomedia Studies The Routledge Handbook of Ecomedia Studies gathers leading work by critical scholars in this burgeoning field. Redressing the lack of environmental perspectives in the study of media ecomedia studies asserts that media are in and about the environment and environments are socially and materially mediated. The book gives form to this new area of study and brings together diverse scholarly contributions to explore and give definition to the field. The Handbook highlights five critical areas of ecomedia scholarship: ecomedia theory ecomateriality political ecology ecocultures and eco-affects. Within these areas authors navigate a range of different topics including infrastructures supply and manufacturing chains energy e-waste labor ecofeminism African and Indigenous ecomedia environmental justice environmental media governance ecopolitical satire and digital ecologies. The result is a holistic volume that provides an in-depth and comprehensive overview of the current state of the field as well as future developments. This volume will be an essential resource for students educators and scholars of media studies cultural studies film environmental communication political ecology science and technology studies and the environmental humanities.
