Ransomware and Cybercrime

Ransomware and Cybercrime

In May 2021 Jim Gosler known as the Godfather and commander of US agencies’ cyber offensive capability said ''Either the Intelligence Community (IC) would grow and adapt or the Internet would eat us alive. '' Mr Gosler was speaking at his retirement only several months before the terrorist attacks of 9/11. He possibly did not realise the catalyst or the tsunami that he and his tens of thousands of US IC offensive website operatives had created and commenced. Over the last two decades what Mr Gosler and his army of Internet keyboard warriors created would become the modus operandi for every faceless nameless state-sponsored or individual cybercriminal to replicate against an unwary ill-protected and ignorant group of executives and security professionals who knew little to nothing about the clandestine methods of infiltration and weaponisation of the Internet that the US and UK agencies led all in the name of security. This book covers many cyber and ransomware attacks and events including how we have gotten to the point of massive digital utilisation particularly during the global lockdown and COVID-19 pandemic to online spending that will see twice the monetary amount lost to cybercrime than what is spent online. There is little to no attribution and with the IC themselves suffering cyberattacks they are all blamed on being sophisticated ones of course. We are witnessing the undermining of our entire way of life our economies and even our liberties. The IC has lots to answer for and unequivocally created the disastrous situation we are currently in. They currently have little to no answer. We need—no we must demand—change. That change must start by ensuring the Internet and all connections to it are secure and no longer allow easy access and exfiltration for both the ICs and cybercriminals. | Ransomware and Cybercrime

Living with Mild Brain Injury The Difficulties of Diagnosis and Recovery from Post-Concussion Syndrome

Living with Mild Brain Injury The Difficulties of Diagnosis and Recovery from Post-Concussion Syndrome

This important book presents a unique personal account of the impact a mild traumatic brain injury can have. It tells the story of Pauline who was 33 when a late football tackle caused a bleed in her brain which went undiscovered for 18 months. The account includes descriptions of hidden symptoms of concussion and post-concussion syndrome pitfalls in diagnoses the uneven progress of recovery and the effect of the varied reactions which others have to an acquired brain injury. The author incorporates memories alongside extracts from clinic notes diary entries and emails to reflect the disjointed progress of diagnosis and recovery as- although similar- no two head injuries are the same. Through this book the reader gains an appreciation of the confusion experienced by many brain injury survivors which sheds light on why some may develop unusual behavior or mental health issues and how such issues can be alleviated. Brain injuries are poorly understood by the general public and this can lead to difficult interactions. Moreover complications in diagnosis means some may not realize they have this milder form of brain injury. This book will enlighten brain injury survivors and affected families and allow professionals an insight into their patients’ experiences. As concerns grow over the risks which contact sports pose this book shows how even mild brain injuries can wreak havoc with careers relationships and one’s sense of self but that a happy life can still be found. | Living with Mild Brain Injury The Difficulties of Diagnosis and Recovery from Post-Concussion Syndrome

Adoption and Law The Unique Personal Experiences of Birth Mothers in Adoption Proceedings

Adoption and Law The Unique Personal Experiences of Birth Mothers in Adoption Proceedings

Using a socio-legal framework this book explores the experiences that birth mothers face in state sanctioned adoption proceedings in the UK. Featuring personal in-depth interviews and conversations with 32 birth mothers the book highlights perspectives and voices that are seldom the focus in leading discourses of professional practice in this area of law. The book also demands that the statutory rights support and care of birth mothers are recognised and strengthened. This book delivers a comprehensive insight into many aspects and controversies of legal child adoption including the development and reform of adoption law over history giving the reader insight into the deep-rooted political and social tensions around the use of adoption. The uniqueness of birth mothers’ subjective stories of adoption contrasts powerfully with the legal theory providing the reader with an intimate paradigm of adoption. The book includes discussion of obiter dicta and authoritative guidance on adoption practice from the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Re B (A Child) (Care Proceedings: Appeal) [2013] UKSC 33 and Re B-S (Children) (Adoption: Leave to Oppose) [2013] EWCA Civ 1146. It also considers Court of Appeal’s recent ruling on post adoption contact in Re B (A Child) (Post-Adoption Contact) [2019] EWCA Civ 29 the first case to come before the court since section 9 of the Children and Families Act 2014 amended the Adoption and Children Act 2002 with the new insertion of section 51A and 51B providing for court ordered post adoption contact. This book is ideally suited to undergraduate students as well as a more multi- disciplinary audience. | Adoption and Law The Unique Personal Experiences of Birth Mothers in Adoption Proceedings
