Lithium Niobate Nanophotonics

Lithium Niobate Nanophotonics

Photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology holds great potential for breaking through the bottlenecks in current photonic and optoelectronic networks. Recently a revolution has been witnessed in the field of lithium niobate (LN) photonics. Over the past decade nanoscale LN waveguides with a propagation loss of ~0. 01 dB and a radius of curvature on the level of ~100 μm have been demonstrated. The revolution mainly benefits from two technological advancements the maturity of lithium-niobate-on-insulator (LNOI) technology and the innovation of nanofabrication approaches of high-quality LNOI photonic structures. Using low-loss waveguides and high-quality-factor (high-Q) microresonators produced on the LNOI platform as building blocks various integrated photonic devices have been demonstrated with unprecedented performances. The breakthroughs have reshaped the landscape of the LN industry. This is the first monograph on LN nanophotonics enabled by the LNOI platform. It comprehensively reviews the development of fabrication technology investigations on nonlinear optical processes and demonstrations of electro-optical devices as well as applications in quantum light sources spectroscopy sensing and microwave-to-optical wave conversion. The book begins with an overview of the technological evolution of PICs justifying the motivation for developing LNOI photonics. The next four chapters focus on LNOI photonics. The book concludes with a summary of the milestone achievements discussed in these chapters and provides a future perspective of this area of research. | Lithium Niobate Nanophotonics

Industrial Hygiene Control of Airborne Chemical Hazards Second Edition

Industrial Hygiene Control of Airborne Chemical Hazards Second Edition

Are you a practicing occupational hygienist wondering how to find a substitute organic solvent that is safer to use than the hazardous one your company is using? Chapter 6 is your resource. Are you a new hygienist looking for an alternative technology as a nonventilation substitute for an existing hazard? Chapter 8 is your resource. Are you looking for an overview of ventilation? Chapters 10 and 11 are your resource? Are you an industrial hygiene student wanting to learn about local exhaust ventilation? Chapters 13 through 16 are your resource. Are you needing to learn about personal protective equipment and respirators? Chapters 21 and 22 are your resources. This new edition brings all of these topics and more right up-to-date with new material in each chapter including new governmental regulations. While many of the controls of airborne hazards have their origins in engineering this author has been diligent in explaining concepts writing equations in understandable terms and covering the topics of non-ventilation controls both local exhaust and general ventilation and receiver controls at the level needed by most IHs without getting too advanced. Taken as a whole this book provides a unique comprehensive tool to learn the challenging yet rewarding role that industrial hygiene can play in controlling airborne chemical hazards at work. Most chapters contain a set of practice problems with the solutions available to instructors. Features Written for the novice industrial hygienist but useful to prepare for ABIH certification Explains engineering concepts but requires no prior engineering background Includes specific learning goals that differentiate the depth of learning appropriate to each topic within the fuller information and explanations provided for each chapter Contains updated governmental regulations and abundant references Presents a consistent teaching philosophy and approach throughout the book Deals with both ventilation and non-ventilation controls | Industrial Hygiene Control of Airborne Chemical Hazards Second Edition

Developments in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore includes the contributions to the 8th International Conference on Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures (ICCGS 2019 Lisbon Portugal 21-23 October 2019). The series of ICCGS-conferences started in 1996 in San Francisco USA and are organised every three years in Europe Asia and the Americas. Developments in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore covers a wide range of topics from the behavior of large passenger vessels in collision and grounding collision and grounding in arctic conditions including accidental ice impact stability residual strength and oil outflow of ships after collision or grounding collision and grounding statistics and predictions and measures of the probability of incidents risk assessment of collision and grounding prediction and measures for reduction of collision and grounding new designs for improvement of structural resistance to collisions analysis of ultimate strength of ship structures (bulkheads tank tops shell etc. ) design of buffer bows to reduce collision consequences design of foreship structures of ferries with doors to avoid water ingress in case of a collision development of rational rules for the structural design against collision and grounding innovative navigation systems for safer sea transportation the role of IMO classification societies and other regulatory bodies in developing safer ships collision between ships and offshore structures collision between ships and fixed or floating bridges and submerged tunnels collision with quays and waterfront structures collision and grounding experiments properties of marine-use materials under impact loadings residual strength of damaged ships and offshore structures analysis of ultimate strength of ship structures to human factors in collision and grounding accidents. Developments in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore is a valuable resource for academics engineers and professionals involved in these areas. | Developments in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Collision an

Testing and Balancing HVAC Air and Water Systems

Testing and Balancing HVAC Air and Water Systems

This thoroughly revised book will provide the reader with an understanding of the principles and practices of testing and balancing (TAB) heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) air and water systems. It is for anyone interested in testing and balancing. For the novice and the experienced testing and balancing technician it is a field reference book of procedures equations and information tables. For those interested in getting into TAB or who are new to the HVAC industry it is a text for learning more about HVAC systems and testing and balancing. For the mechanical engineer building owner facility manager commissioning agency or energy manager this book can be used for teaching TAB writing more effective specifications and learning about TAB and how it interacts with system commissioning indoor air quality and energy management. It is the intent of this book to improve the communications between owners mechanical engineers designers vendors contractors TAB engineers supervisors and technicians to ensure that HVAC systems are being thoroughly tested and balanced. This book is used in test and balance self-study courses in-house training programs seminars and other training formats as preparation for TAB certification and as a text in colleges and technical schools. The sixth edition has general and specific testing and balancing procedures for constant air volume systems variable air volume systems return air and exhaust air systems positive and negative pressure conditioned spaces and fans and fan performance in Chapters 1 through 9. Chapters 10–12 cover testing and balancing fume hood systems and cleanrooms and commissioning HVAC systems. Chapters 13 and 14 provide information on water systems and centrifugal pumps including water balancing procedures using flow meters system components and temperatures and water pumps and pump performance. Chapter 15 reviews analog and digital controls. Chapters 16–20 cover terminology for fluid flow psychrometrics refrigeration¸ air distribution water distribution fans and pumps motors electrical and instrument usage and care. Chapters 21 and 22 are equations and tables. | Testing and Balancing HVAC Air and Water Systems
