Bougainvillea Barbara Karst (Miss Manila) - Climbing

Bougainvillea Barbara Karst (Miss Manila) - Climbing

The Bougainvillea is a genus which includes vigorous climbing shrubs with long branches. The real beauty of the plant is the brightly coloured bracts, which last for all the warm months. They are quick growers and, in just a few years, will cover a large area. In colder climates, they are grown in pots, where they can be kept outside in the summer and taken under cover as soon as the weather turns cold. They are not hardy at all and only come at H2 on the hardiness scale so make sure to shelter these plants as soon as the winter arrives. Bougainvillea prefers siliceous soil but will grow in almost any kind of garden soil as long as it is free from stagnation. Its position must be in full sun or half-shade. It can withstand a maritime climate and will tolerate hard pruning. Make sure to follow the guidelines of pruning group 12 for details. It is prone to potential pests so keep an eye out for this. However it is not prone to diseases. Product Dimensions: 3 litre pot: approximate height 80-120 cm / 2.6-3.9 ft 7-10 litre pot: approximate height 150-200 cm / 4.9-6.6 ft 18-25 litre pot: approximate height 200-300 cm / 6.6-9.8 ft Latin Name: Bougainvillea Barbara Karst English Name: Miss Manila, Tango Species: Nyctaginaceae Genus: Bougainvillea Foliage Type: Semi-evergreen Foliage: Green Fragrance: Flower Flower: Pink-White Flowering Period: Summer-Autumn. Bougainvillea Glabra 'Sanderiana' - Climbing

Bougainvillea Glabra 'Sanderiana' - Climbing

This flowering plant is loved for its abundant floral display in vivid colours. The actual flowers are tiny and white, but each cluster of three flowers is surrounded by thin papery bracts in bright colours. There exist around 300 varieties of bougainvillea which come in various colours burgundy, pink, purple, red, orange, white, or yellow. It is a long lived plant which flowers seasonally and is deciduous in temperate climates though evergreen in the tropics. Although it is essentially a thorny, woody vine, it can be grown in any size and shape outdoors; covering a sunny wall, trained as a tree, bush or even a pyramid. In cooler climates it can be grown as an indoor container plant or even an indoor bonsai. We would not see this plant as a good choice for cold, wet and damp areas like Scotland. The hardiness rating is only a H2 so make sure to shelter this plant when the winter time comes. The plant is prone to pests but is generally disease free. Mexican Grass Tree (Dasylirion Longissimum)

Mexican Grass Tree (Dasylirion Longissimum)

The Mexican Grass tree is a stylish and original plant used in many modern, contemporary British gardens. With a very low trunk, the Mexican Grass Trees thin, grass-like leaves explode from the top in a neat, green tuft. Some specimen versions of this plant are cultivated so as to train the leaves into an even ball shape, dry ends creating a shimmering effect towards the edge. This plant originates from the Chihuahuan Desert overlapping the USA-Mexico border and as such is resistant to drought and extreme weather conditions. However, in order to encourage growth and good health, try and place your Dasylirion longissimum in a well drained, highly sunned position. We estimate that the recommended hardiness rating for this plant is at H3 so whilst it can survive certain cold weather conditions, it would be best to shelter.
