Cotton satin - the best of both worldsHow about trying our soft cotton fabric in a range of beautiful colours for your next creative project. It's soft and comfortable to work with.Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven. This means that when we say cotton satin, it has the same beautiful weave as more 'classic' satin, while the cotton quality gives a more matt finish to the fabric.  And what can you use cotton satin for? Well, that’s entirely up to you. We prefer using it for bed linen. The natural material of the cotton in the delicate satin weave makes for some really lovely home made bed linen. As with so many other cottons, it is also suitable for clothing. Cotton is comfortable to wear and the fine weave gives it a nice finish - for a summer shirt or skirt, for example. Cotton satin is also perfect for a tablecloth for the table. Sew the tablecloth yourself or select "Sew as a tablecloth" and we will sew it for you (click on the text for details). Practical information about cotton satinMade from 100% cotton, it's soft and fluffy and, as always, you buy the fabric by the metre, so you get exactly the length you need. The fabric is 145 cm wide, has a weight of 130 grams and shrinks about 8% in the wash. You can wash it at 60° and iron at medium heat - but avoid the tumble dryer; let it air dry instead. TIP: Finish your seams properly - satin tends to fray a lot. You could also consider using a wider seam allowance to secure your seams or use overlock stitching. As always - test your seams on a scrap piece beforehand to see which technique works best for your piece of fabric. Search "9 tips for sewing satin" for more tips. What is satin? Satin refers to the way the fabric is woven, where one side of the material is smooth and shiny. Light, colourful and a beautiful drape! Viscose is a popular fabric for many fashion designs. It's a light and soft material with good breathability, while also being comfortable to wear.  The beautiful drape is especially pronounced in tops, dresses, and shirts, where even with the simplest designs, you achieve a stylish look. The design is up to you: Does the shirt need a small collar? The top a boat neck? Or are you into ruched details?  That being said, viscose is also well-suited for light trousers. We prefer them with a bit of width in the legs, so you once again benefit from the lovely drape.  Choose from many stunning colours.  What is viscose? Viscose has been used for clothing for over 100 years. The fabric consists of processed and regenerated cellulose, for example from wood pulp or cotton waste. It resembles natural fibres like cotton and silk.  Some practicalities The fabric is 100% viscose, is 130 cm wide, and you can of course choose the length you need. Wash at 40°C, iron at medium heat, and allow to air dry. Expect 5% shrinkage after washing.  Remember to use the right needles – we recommend using a universal needle or a microtex needle in size 70.

Viscose + jersey = a new favourite Viscose and jersey are two popular terms within textiles. In this fabric, we combine the two qualities, giving you a light and soft material with good breathability and comfortable stretch.  Colourful designs Whether you prefer black and white, earthy tones or vibrant colours – you'll find the entire colour palette in this fabric. Choose one or more favourites, get out your sewing machine, and sew your new outfit.  The material is suitable for almost all types of clothing, but of course, we have some favourites.  One of them is the classic top. Once you've found the right fit, you can easily change its look by simply choosing a new colour. Or how about making small adjustments in the design, so you have your favourite top with short, ¾, and long sleeves?  The fabric is suitable for much more than classic tops! Use it for dresses, leggings, trousers, and skirts. Find plenty of inspiration in our sewing patterns or design your own favourite.  A bit of practicality Viscose has been used for clothing for over 100 years. The fabric consists of processed and regenerated cellulose from sources like wood pulp or cotton waste. It's similar to natural fibres like cotton and silk. This enables you to divide the yarn and use single strands if you are mending a thin material. Or you can use it as it is – for instance on denim. How to do mending Place a small piece of fabric under the hole you mean to mend. Hand stitch over it in straight lines in different directions until a nice pattern has formed. You can also use mending yarn for more seamless and less visible repairs, but the look of visible mending is fantastic.
