Medium Secure Psychiatric Provision in the Private Sector First published in 1998 this volume assesses issues of privatisation and mental health provision in the Medium Secure Psychiatric Care sector including case studies on two regional secure units and Stockton Hall Psychiatric Hospital between 1989 and 1992. It emerged at the end of a period of Conservative Party dominance of almost two decades in which privatisation had been at the forefront of discussion and focused on the midpoint of that era. Despite this privatisation of psychiatric care had received little discussion. Here Katrina R. Moss discusses the role of private medical care in the UK healthcare landscape with focus on the meaning of privatisation attitudes towards privatising the criminal justice system along with relevant legal and medical issues related to regulation by the Mental Health Act 1983. | Medium Secure Psychiatric Provision in the Private Sector GBP 14.99 1
Supporting EMI Students Outside of the Classroom Evidence from Japan There is a growing body of research on English-medium Instruction (EMI) in Asian contexts and much of this research points out difficulties experienced by stakeholders. This volume takes up the issue of support for EMI which is and which can be offered to students outside of the classroom in order to help them succeed academically in an EMI environment. Dr Ruegg’s book demonstrates the effectiveness of such support in the Japanese context. It begins by examining the support currently available for students in English-medium full degree programmes then goes on to examine one successful support service in more detail in order to determine the kinds of effects that can be achieved by establishing such a centre. The research reported in this book was conducted in Japan but the findings will apply in other locations especially in other Asian countries. The information provided in the book is expected to inform institutions who are looking to either establish an English-medium degree programme or improve on an existing programme by sharing information about the practices of other institutions. | Supporting EMI Students Outside of the Classroom Evidence from Japan GBP 16.99 1
Signifying Place The Semiotic Realisation of Place in Irish Product Marketing Through a socio-semiotic analysis of promotional materials used by both producers of quality products and their support organizations this book investigates the use of imagery especially images of place in three contrasting regions of Ireland. It highlights the role of place (particularly rural) imagery in the promotion of handcrafts and rural tourism services and suggests some of the meanings which may be contacted through the use of such imagery. Much of the research to date in this field has concentrated on the use of imagery to promote particular places rather than products and in an Irish context on the promotion of Ireland as a tourism destination. This book focuses on the regional and local level to examine the creation and use of more micro-place specific images - both real and mythical - by small and medium sized businesses and explores the extent to which the two industries borrow from and feed into firstly each other and secondly macro place myths and iconographies. | Signifying Place The Semiotic Realisation of Place in Irish Product Marketing GBP 11.99 1
