Battlefield Hardline is the first installment in the sub-series of the Battlefield series of first-person shooters. Unlike the previous parts, the main role in creating the game was entrusted to Visceral Games - the authors of the Dead Space survival horrors - and not, as it was before, the Swedish EA DICE team.  Battlefield Hardline abandons the traditional theater of war for a conflict of a different caliber - the struggle between the police and organized crime. The player takes on the role of Nick Mendoza, a young detective from Miami, who sets out on a personal vendetta around the United States, aimed against his former partners, whose prospect of getting rich quickly has been drawn to the path of lawlessness. The structure of the plot is modeled on TV series, i.e. there is a division into episodes often ended with twists. The detective sequences, during which Nick collects material evidence and identifies suspects, are a bit of a variation.
