Unravel Two is a platformer developed for PC, PS4 and XONE, enriched with logical elements. The game was developed by Coldwood Interactive studio, the same studio that was responsible for the first part of 2016.
In Unravel Two, we again manage a nice mascot, woven entirely of thick, red yarn. This time she does not go on the adventure alone - she is accompanied by a friend, also made of blue yarn.
While playing, the heroes travel through locations inspired by real places from Scandinavian countries, including villages as well as forests and coasts almost untouched by human presence.
The game has a very economical story. Instead of an extensive scenario and sudden twists, we get a simple story about a journey and heroes who have to rely on themselves to deal with adversity.
Mechanics-wise, Unravel Two, released on PC, PS4 and XONE, is a classic 2.5D platformer. This means that although the graphics are three-dimensional, the gameplay itself takes place in two dimensions. Typically dexterity challenges are diversified by logical elements, requiring you to come up with a way, e.g. to remove an obstacle from our path. The fact that the characters are made of yarn plays a key role in the fun. The heroes can unwind part of a string and use it like a rope to swing on it or drag some objects behind them. All of this is ruled by an extensive physics engine.
Compared to the first installment, the biggest change is the addition of a second character. In order to be successful, both men must work closely together - e.g. hold the end of the yarn so that a companion can climb on it. The game allows for cooperative play in two people, but we can also play alone - switch between heroes anywhere, and when we do not need a companion's help, we can simply take him up and control only one stick figure.
In addition, the gameplay has become more dynamic. More exciting sequences emerge. On the other hand, the need for cooperation between the characters, as well as the fact that their yarns are constantly tied together, keeps the puzzles fresh.
