Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a stealth game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami Digital Entertainment. Directed by Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima, Phantom Pain is the fifth main installment in the legendary saga of an elite soldier and spy operating under the code name "Snake". The story is set in 1984 during the Soviet-Afghan War and features characters familiar from previous Metal Gear Solid games, including Snake's longtime adversary, Revolver Ocelot.
Master the stealth gameplay
MGS V features the basic stealth gameplay the series is known for. As Punished "Venom" Snake, the player must sneak through enemy-guarded locations, moving from cover to cover to avoid detection. Snake can also use various methods to hide from enemies, such as using iconic cardboard boxes. Like other installments of Metal Gear Solid, The Phantom Pain emphasizes non-lethal ways of dealing with enemies, such as depriving them of life with strangulation and tranquilizer darts.
Open World Mechanics
The Phantom Pain is set in an open world based on Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan War. The player can traverse the world on foot and on horseback, as well as using various types of vehicles such as jeeps and tanks. During gameplay, Snake can summon A.I. companions to assist him. These include Quiet, a silent sniper with paranormal abilities, an armored horse, a mobile weapons platform capable of delivering suppressive fire, and a trained wolf pup, helpful in some scenarios. The game features a base-building mechanic where the player can develop and upgrade weapons and items, as well as recruit personnel from captured prisoners.
The story of Serpent
The year is 1984, the hot period of the Soviet-Afghan War. Big Boss awakens from a 9-year coma, caused by the events in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. As Venom Snake, he joins the Diamond Dogs, a mercenary group, and travels to war-torn Afghanistan and the border of Angola and Zaire to find the Militaires Sans Frontières responsible for the destruction. Along the way he reacquaints himself with Revolver Ocelot, his old adversary, and Quiet, a sniper with supernatural abilities. Snake soon discovers that the events that put him in a coma were a cover for the creation of a new Metal Gear engine.
Metal Gear Multiplayer
Metal Gear Solid V features a multiplayer system, split into two modes. The new Metal Gear Online, where up to 16 players compete in various modes based on tactical warfare, and earn reward points that they can spend on customizing their character. The second mode is the base expansion system in the single-player campaign, where the player's base of operations can be attacked by other players who will want to steal the resources stored in that base. The player's job is to protect the valuable items from being taken over.
