Dex is an original production created by the independent Czech studio Dreadlocks, combining elements of an action game, RPG and a classic side-scroll platformer in the style of Flashback. The game, set in a cyberpunk style, draws inspiration from iconic titles known from arcade salons and the work of William Gibson, the author of the science-fiction novel Neuromancer.
Story
The story of Dex takes us into the future, to a place called Harbor Prime, where neighborhoods full of luxurious high-rise buildings contrast with the run-down and dingy habitats of the poor. In such a world, we will have to face the mysterious artificial intelligence that was born on the web and grew in strength, drawing knowledge from billions of its users and available applications and databases. Considering itself as the last link in the chain of evolution, an evil cybernetic force seeks to break out of human control and make the final transformation, and our job is to stop it.
Gameplay
The action of the game takes place in a non-linear way, leaving players to choose the development path and the way in which we want to carry out subsequent missions. Depending on the individual style, the encountered obstacles can be eliminated with the help of weapons, skills or special devices. An interesting fact is the introduction of hand-to-hand combat, reminiscent of classic beat'em up games. In addition to the main plot, in Dex we will also come across a number of side quests. However, they are not only an unnecessary addition, but are closely related to the story being told, exerting a specific influence on the further development of events. The original idea of the creators is the possibility of playing the game on two interconnected planes: in the real world and in cyberspace. By taking control of your avatar, we can, among others hack computers or deactivate defense systems, and the effect of these actions will be immediately visible in the surrounding reality.
