Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky 70cl

Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky The history behind Nikka Coffey starts in the 1960's, and comes from the expertise of the Japanese Nikka Whisky company. They have decades of experience blending whiskies, and creating white spirits. Whilst 'Nikka' is the name of the company, Coffey refers to the type of still used to create the base distillate. This is a traditional continuous still, which produces the signature grain whiskies of Nikka. These were imported from Scotland to Japan in 1963. Whilst they have created a number of single cask grain whiskies in their history, this one is the largest to date. It is a perfect example of an 'exotic' Japanese Whisky. On the nose this has both bourbon vanilla and corn. There is also a background hint of chamomile. The palate is sweet, and has fruit flavours reminiscent of grapefruit and perhaps mangoes. The vanilla comes through as in the nose, and its joined by a syrup like quality. The finish allows the corn notes to come through, but the whisky remains sweet and vibrant right to the end. The notes of bourbon like vanilla make this a whisky which should appeal both to the fans of grain whiskies and those who enjoy bourbon. More from Nikka Perfect Serve This can be enjoyed neat on its own at room temperature, or over ice. We liked this best with a large single ice-cube as it released additional flavours.

Copperhead Scarfes Bar Gin "Drawing room conviviality, gentleman’s club sophistication and a creative cocktail menu give true meaning to the phrase ‘get scarfed’ at Gerald’s eponymous bar in London, replete with a roaring fire and shelves filled with over 1,000 antique books" - Rosewood Hotels It is a collaboration with the Scarfes Bar in London which produces this (self named) edition from Copperhead. Copperhead felt an affinity for the ethos behind this bar - A passion (and skill) for creating almost magical chemistry through the creation of drinks.  This gin is a perfect balance between bittersweet, spice and floral notes. This makes it ideal for both sipping or mixed in cocktails. They used a mix of Copperhead’s instantly recognisable botanicals, along with unexpected earthy additions of pine nuts, pine blossoms and a unique apple distillate. The result is a gin which is multi-layered, and has unmistakable aromas of blossom, bark and wood shavings on the nose. On the palate there is a creamy mouthfeel and a spicy character, all married together by fresh hints of apple. Carlos I Solera Gran Reserva Brandy de Jerez Carlos I is created by one of the oldest producers of wine and spirits in Spain (the Osborne Group), who have been producing award-winning drinks for over two centuries (being founded in 1772). It's this history, and knowledge which ensures a quality product, and accolades from across the world. In fact in 2020 they were the Brandy Producer of the Year. The Solera reference in the name is a process for fractional blending, and results in a finished brandy made from a mixture of ages. The Brandy de Jerez is a PDO reference (Protected Designation of Origin), which tells that the Brandy has been matured exclusively within the "Sherry Triangle" (within specifc boundaries in the province of Cádiz in the very south of Spain. It is a combination of the blending, area of maturation and the knowledge behind Carlos I which ensures this brandy continues to be enjoyed across the world. Its deep amber colour gives an intensely aromatic aroma, with rich notes of vanilla and cocoa. On the palate its complex yet well balanced, with notes of sherry and raisins which are joined by chocolate, vanilla, almonds and a hint of coffee. Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey With a family history in distilling which dates back to Walter Teeling in 1782, it was no surprise when Jack and Stephen Teeling opened a distillery in Dublin in 2015. In fact, the Teeling Distillery is now the first new distillery in Dublin for over 125 years. They wanted to create a contemporary brand, which, whilst looking to the future they ensure to keep an eye on the past. In this way, they can appeal to the modern whiskey drinker, whilst ensuring traditions are honoured. Part of their 'Unconventional Collection', Teeling's Single Malt (made with 100% malted barley) was eagerly anticipated. This is created using an innovative cask maturation from a selection of five wine-cask finished whiskeys - each of which add a quality to the finished blend. They use no chill filtration in it's creation. Cabernet Sauvignon Finish: Red berry, tannic elements midway through the palate Madeira Finish: Brings hints of ginger Port Finish: Stone fruits, plum, apricot Sherry Finish: Brings depth and body with rich dried fruit influences White Burgundy Finish: Subtle tropical fruit influence, pineapple, passionfruit on the nose This results in an Irish Whiskey which delivers a unique and enticing fruit-forward flavour profile. It has aromas of fruit - melon, figs and lemon, all of which come through on the nose as well as a sweetness of toffee. Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky 70cl

Glenfiddich Single Malt 12Y Scotch Whisky Having been founded in 1886 by William Grant, the first whisky ran from their stills on Christmas Day in 1887. The name actually name comes from the location of the distillery, situated in the glen of the river Fiddich. In scots gaelic Glenfiddich means 'valley of the deer', hence the stag found on the bottles. This whisky has been produced since 2008 and is awarded the world over. It's also the most awarded at the IWSC and claims the distinction of being the world's best-selling single-malt whisky. It's known for both its freshness and distinctive fruitiness, both a result of its production methods. The freshness comes from the highland spring water (used since 1887), and the fruitiness form the high cut point which was insisted on by William Grant himself. The maturation occurs in both american oak, and european oak sherry casks for at least 12 years. Mellowed in oak marrying tuns to ensure a sweet, yet subtle oak flavour. On the nose the renowned fresh and fruity aroma comes through with a hint of pear. The taste has fruity notes with a characteristic sweetness. These develop into a creamy butterscotch, delicious malt notes and subtle oak flavours. The finish rounds out long and smooth, finishing deliciously mellow. Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky - Peated "From Wales to the world..." - Penderyn Distillery The Penderyn distillery is located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons (a National Park in Wales, UK). It was launched on St David's Day in 2004 (the patron saint of Wales), in the presence of King Charles III (then HRH Prince Charles, who was the Prince of Wales).  The location was chosen due to a fresh natural spring located in the Village. They also use a unique copper single-pot still, which was designed by Dr David Faraday (a relative of the famous 19th Century Scientist). This was installed in 2000 and produces a spirit at 92%, which is an industry high. Penderyn state this is one of the reasons that their whiskies are light, fruity and full of flavour. As if this wasn't enough to ensure a world-class product, they hired Dr Jum Swan, a Scottish Whisky expert as their Master Distiller. Things have gone from strength to strength since their launch, and they have won over 100 Double Gold / Gold / Masters awards, and is available in over 50 countries the world over, including the key markets for whisky of France, Germany, the USA and China.  For their Gold range, in which their Peated edition sits, Penderyn have taken inspiration from Welsh Gold. Extremely rare, pure and precious it was worn by the legendary Welsh princes of old. Their peated edition (as the name would suggest) has a medium peaty character. Interestingly, this is also certified as Kosher. The nose has a sweet aromatic smokiness, with vanilla, green apple and refreshing citrus. The flavours are complex, yet gentle with a light smoke and citrus fruitiness. It finishes with smoke and vanilla. Kinahan's Small Batch Irish Whiskey 70cl

Kinahan's Small Batch Irish Whiskey Het merk Kinahan's gaat terug tot 1779 toen ze zich vestigden in Trinity Street in Dublin, Ierland. Het staat bekend om het 'LL'-teken op de lopen, wat staat voor 'Lord Lieutenant', die het staatshoofd was. In 1807 was de toenmalige Lord Lieutenant Charles Lennox zo onder de indruk van de whisky's die door de Kinahans werden gemaakt, dat hij beval dat alle voorraden in de kluizen van Dublin voor zijn eigen privégebruik moesten worden ingenomen, en elk vat werd gemarkeerd met de 'L.L.'. Dit (veel geadverteerde) nieuws leidde ertoe dat de whisky's van Kinahan een van de meest gewilde werden, zowel in Ierland als in de buurlanden. Deze roemruchte geschiedenis zette zich voort, met koningin Victoria die Kinahans in 1845 een koninklijk bevel toekende. Dit was te danken aan de hoogste niveaus van gedifferentieerde smaak en vakmanschap. Het is dus gemakkelijk te zien dat dit niet zomaar een andere traditionele Ierse blended whisky is. Het is ontworpen om een uitzonderlijk goed uitgebalanceerde en delicate melange te creëren die gemakkelijk gedronken kan worden. Dit werd bereikt door een speciaal geselecteerde variëteit en kwaliteit van 1st en 2nd fill ex-bourbonvaten te mengen. Het resultaat is een whisky met rijke en nootachtige aroma's, vergezeld van heerlijke fruittonen van rode appels en gerijpte perziken. Een vleugje kruiden en een heerlijke hint van zoete butterscotch. In de mond is dit heerlijk romig en zoet, met tonen van sinaasappelschil en abrikoos. Net als bij het aroma komen perziken door, evenals verse room, zoete kruiden en havermout. De afdronk is middellang, met een moutigheid. Een lichte zuurheid voegt zich bij een vleugje citroen, vanille en eikenhout. Heerlijk geroosterd en complex. Perfect Serve Geniet hiervan zoals je wilt! We houden ervan om dit gewoon op een enkele grote ijsblokjesvorm te serveren, maar het werkt even goed op zichzelf of met een scheutje water.

Masthouse Column Malt Whisky Created by the Copper Rivet Distillery, in Kent - the location of the distillery has a rich tradition of innovation and craftsmanship. This area once produced world-class ships. The story starts in 2005 when the Russell family began planning their distillery. It took much planning, but in 2015 they found the future home of Copper Rivet Distillery and the Victorian Pump House No. 5 in Chatham Maritime was purchased. In 2016 they began distilling, but it wasn't until 2017 that they officially opened. On Friday 1st December, HRH The Princess Royal (the British Princess Anne) officially opened Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham's Historic Docky. From that day they began selling exceptional whisky, gin and vodka. For all of their spirits, including their whiskys only the best early harvest wheat, barley and rye are selected to be used. These are all grown within 20 miles of their home in Chatham, working with known farmers. Their Column Malt Whisky is one of Britain’s first single malt whisky's to be distilled in a column still. For this they took inspiration from the Japanese and American distilleries. They use 100% Belgravia Barley which is grown at 40 acre field. Their mash has a long fermentation before its initial pot distillation. After this, there is a second distillation in the 10 meter tall column still. This unique column still creates a deliciously smooth, easy drinking whisky. The final stage is ageing in first full American Oak Bourbon Barrels. The resulting whisky has an intruiging balance of flavours. It has an aroma full of Vanilla mousse with candied zest, toffee apple and light oak shavings. Whilst on the palate there is a lingering sweet cream with dried plantain, fresh cut pear and a nutty, peppery finish. Metaxa 7 Stars 70cl

Metaxa 7 Stars Metaxa has been sold since 1888, when its founder Spyros Metaxa created his spirit due to a desire for a smoother, intense spirit (he felt others available at the time were harsh on the palate). With over 130 years of history, Metaxa has been exporting its family of spirits across the world since its foundation in Piraeus (the port of Athens). Interesting fact: It's said that the “Salamina Warrior” which is shown on the bottles, was used due to a medallion being found during the building of the distillery. The Battle of Salamina took place in 480 BC in the waters near Piraeus. The star denomination found with Metaxa relates not to the age, but rather the number of base wines and spirits that go into each blend. Whilst this is a brandy like drink, it's not classed as a brandy - rather sitting in it's own category. For their 7 Star, Metaxa have created a drink which is balanced and fruity. The liquid itself is of a deep amber hue, with a hint of copper. On the nose it has floral notes which are joined by ripe peaches and prunes. The flavour is complex, with both cinnamon and coffee greeting the palate. It develops into a well rounded drink with a full body filled with sweet, mature fruits and toffee. It has a long finish, and leaves notes of fruit in the mouth as well as a hint of rose in the background. For a special drink, try a Manhattan Bay Cocktail. In a chilled mixing glass add 50ml of the Metaxa 7 Stars, 25ml of sweet red vermouth and add 3 dashes each of Angostura Bitters and Angostura Orange Bitters. Stir well and serve in a cocktail glass. It is from this that Penderyn have taken inspiration for their Dragon series of whiskies, which the Legend falls into. Legend is a Madeira-finish single malt whisky. On the nose you are greeted with fresh crisp apples and citrus fuits. These merge enticingly with creamy fudge and dried fruits. The palate is exceptionally smooth, bringing the freshness hinted at on the nose as well as rich dried fruits. Whilst full of flavour, its delicate and has a sweetness to it, which ends in a hint of bitterness which ensures the overall drink retains a refreshing quality. The finish leaves a lingering wamth of rich madeira fruit cake. Hennessy VS Cognac 35cl

Hennessy VS Cognac The history behind Hennessy goes back to 1765. It was an Irish Jacobite officer who had served in the army of Louis XV that started the Hennesy Cognac Distillery. He had retired in the cognac region where he setup the distillery and began exporting his products to the UK and Ireland. Now known as one of the 'big four' cognac producers in the world (who between then produce around 85% of the world's cognac). Hennessy is the largest of the four, and produce around 70 million bottles of cognac a year. In fact, it was in 1840 that Hennessy became the worlds leading exporter of Brandy, and to this day have not lost that title. Being a type of Brandy, Cognac falls under the French appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) which means there are strict requirements to be called Cognac. These include twice distilling specific grape varieties in copper pot stills and aging for a minimum of two years in Limousin or Tronçais oak casks. The VS (very special) designation denotes that the youngest brandy within the blend has had the minimum two years in casks (it is always the youngest brandy in the blend which gives the designation). Hennessy VS Cognac is a blend masterfully created from over 40 different eaux-de-vie. It is the Master Blender who oversees this process to ensure the quality. The result of this blending and knowledge is a full bodied cognac. With a renowned smoothness, and a touch of sweetness it has distinct spice notes. The aging in wood gives a light nuttiness to the cognac, which join with flavours of rich dried fruits and berries. These are all rounded out by warming vanilla. Interesting fact: In 1813 Jean Fillioux was appointed Master Blender. A member of the Fillious family has kept this role ever since - more than 250 years and a total of eight generations!
