Story
XCOM: Enemy Unknown is set in 2015, the time in which we live. XCOM 2 (PC) begins 20 years later, in the year 2035. The world is not the same anymore - humanity has been defeated by aliens and is now controlled by the Advent Administration. Humans have gained access to modern technology and think that the aliens want to live in peace with them, but the truth is cruel. Only XCOM is aware of the aliens' agenda. In the beginning, the player is tasked to free a commander who was kidnapped by aliens who wanted to use his strategic thinking by implanting a brain implant. After Bradford rescues the commander, the game begins where you have to plan out XCOM's every move to save the world. While in XCOM: Enemy Unknown the player had to protect the Earth from aliens, this time your role is to drive them out of our world.
Soldier Classes
You command an XCOM brigade of up to six soldiers and plan each step to defeat the aliens. Each soldier has different skills and you can choose from five classes - Grenadier, Ranger, Psi Operative, Specialist and Sharpshooter. Each soldier must be trained and uses different weapons. Soldiers can also choose their specialization and train their unique skills. Specialist, one of the soldier classes, has a drone that can be used to observe towers or hack things from a distance.
Alien species
In addition to the aliens familiar from XCOM: Enemy Unknown, you'll have to face horrific beasts such as Archons, Andromedons, Berserkers, Chrysalids, Faceless, Mutons, Sectoids, snake-like Vipers, and the zombie-like Lost. The list is longer, and there are just a few of the brutal and horrible beasts you may encounter on your path and have to defeat. Each of them has different abilities, which makes the battles interesting and you have to be constantly vigilant to protect your soldiers.
