Reus is an unusual real-time strategy game for PC, XONE and PS4, belonging to the sub-genre called god game initiated by the Populous series . This is the first commercial production of the Dutch studio Abbey Games.
Gameplay
As in a typical god game, in Reus the player takes on the role of a deity who looks after the development of a small civilization on a small planet . The people from Abbey Games, however, went in a slightly different direction than most of their colleagues and opted for beautiful cartoon 2D, both in terms of graphics and gameplay mechanisms. We fulfill our will with the help of four slow giants that can only move to the left or right side of the screen. At their feet there are tiny villages and the people who live there.
The task of the titans under our control is to create conditions for the settlers and then make their lives easier. For this purpose, we use the power to shape the landscape and influence nature. Each of the giants we control has different abilities. For example, a stone giant is so powerful that it can lift rocks with its hands and transform them into mountains, or tear up the ground to create a waterfall. In turn, resembling a giant tree that comes alive, has power over plants. All these divine interventions are for the welfare of the followers, and their happiness unlocks access to new powers. During the game, we must, among others provide people with fruit trees, which will make them full and stronger. In turn, access to medicinal herbs can initiate the scientific development of the community, and by discovering gold deposits, we will ensure its wealth.
