Plug-and-Play Visual Subgraph Query Interfaces - Sourav S. Bhowmick - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

This book details recent developments in the emerging area of plug-and-play (PnP) visual subgraph query interfaces (VQI). These PnP interfaces are grounded in the principles of human-computer interaction (HCI) and cognitive psychology to address long-standing limitations to bottom-up search capabilities in graph databases using traditional graph query languages, which often require domain experts and specialist programmers. This book explains how PnP interfaces go against the traditional mantra of VQI construction by taking a data-driven approach and giving end users the freedom to easily and quickly construct and maintain a VQI for any data sources without resorting to coding. The book walks readers through the intuitive PnP interface that uses templates where the underlying graph repository represents the socket and user-specified requirements represent the plug. Hence, a PnP interface enables an end user to change the socket ( i.e., graph repository) or the plug ( i.e., requirements) as necessary to automatically and effortlessly generate VQIs. The book argues that such a data-driven paradigm creates several benefits, including superior support for visual subgraph query construction, significant reduction in the manual cost of constructing and maintaining a VQI for any graph data source, and portability of the interface across diverse sources and querying applications. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the notion of PnP interfaces, compares it to its classical manual counterpart, and reviews techniques for automatic construction and maintenance of these new interfaces. In synthesizing current research on plug-and-play visual subgraph query interface management, this book gives readers a snapshot of the state of the art in this topic as well as future research directions.

Guide to Software Verification with Frama-C - - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

Guide to Software Verification with Frama-C - - Bog - Springer International Publishing AG - Plusbog.dk

Frama-C is a popular open-source toolset for analysis and verification of C programs, largely used for teaching, experimental research, and industrial applications. With the growing complexity and ubiquity of modern software, there is increasing interest in code analysis tools at various levels of formalization to ensure safety and security of software products. Acknowledging the fact that no single technique will ever be able to fit all software verification needs, the Frama-C platform features a wide set of plug-ins that can be used or combined for solving specific verification tasks. This guidebook presents a large panorama of basic usages, research results, and concrete applications of Frama-C since the very first open-source release of the platform in 2008. It covers the ACSL specification language, core verification plug-ins, advanced analyses and their combinations, key ingredients for developing new plug-ins, as well as successful industrial case studies in which Frama-C has helped engineers verify crucial safety or security properties. Topics and features:* Gentle, example-based introduction to software specification and verification * Wide panorama of state-of-the-art specification and analysis techniques * Step-by-step guide to develop your own, tailor-made analysis on top of the platform* Inspiring success stories of Frama-C deployment on industrial code* More than 15 years of R&D on analysis and verification of C codeThis book is firmly rooted on the practice of software analysis, with numerous examples, exercises and application guidelines. As such, it is particularly well suited for software verification practitioners wishing to deploy verification on their code, as well as for undergraduate students with little or no experience in code analysis techniques. More advanced sections on the theoretical underpinnings of the analyzers will be of interest for graduate students and researchers. Nikolai Kosmatov is a Senior Researcher at Thales Research & Technology, France. A Dramatic Event in Late Roman Florence - - Bog - Archaeopress - Plusbog.dk

A Dramatic Event in Late Roman Florence: The Anomalous Burial Site Discovered beneath the Uffizi Gallery presents a multi-disciplinary scientific investigation arising from excavations under the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. Investigations revealed traces of a striking, hitherto unknown episode and made it possible to write an entirely new chapter of the city’s ancient history. Between the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 5th century AD this space – then a strip of land between the walls of Roman Florentia and the River Arno – was chosen as the burial place for dozens of inhabitants who had died within a short time span. Indeed, what has survived the expansion of the medieval and Renaissance city represents a small part of an originally much larger emergency burial area used in the course of a dramatic event of considerable proportions, most probably an epidemic, of which there is no historical record. The scientific investigations described here aim to understand, through a synergetic and coordinated approach, not only the cause of these deaths but also the historical and socioeconomic context of this event. The volume therefore collects contributions by several specialists in different disciplines: anthropology, medicine, numismatics, C14 dating, palaeogenetics, palaeobacteriology, and palaeoparasitology. The results are of considerable historical interest: they reveal contemporary living conditions, which contributed to the onset of mortality; the event was likely a contributing factor to subsequent well-known demographic changes; and its chronology suggests a probable relationship with the first barbarian aggression against the city.

Review of the Research Program of the FreedomCAR and Fuel Partnership - National Research Council - Bog - National Academies Press - Plusbog.dk

The public-private partnership to develop vehicles that require less petroleum-based fuel and emit fewer greenhouse gases should continue to include fuel cells and other hydrogen technologies in its research and development portfolio. The third volume in the FreedomCAR series states that, although the partnership's recent shift of focus toward technologies that could be ready for use in the nearer term—such as advanced combustion engines and plug-in electric vehicles—is warranted, R&D on hydrogen and fuel cells is also needed given the high costs and challenges that many of the technologies must overcome before widespread use. The FreedomCAR (Cooperative Automotive Research) and Fuel Partnership is a research collaboration among the U.S. Department of Energy, the United States Council for Automotive Research - whose members are the Detroit automakers—five major energy companies, and two electric utility companies. The partnership seeks to advance the technologies essential for components and infrastructure for a full range of affordable, clean, energy efficient cars and light trucks. Until recently, the program primarily focused on developing technologies that would allow U.S. automakers to make production and marketing decisions by 2015 on hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles. These vehicles have the potential to be much more energy-efficient than conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, produce no harmful tailpipe emissions, and significantly reduce petroleum use. In 2009, the partnership changed direction and stepped up efforts to advance, in the shorter term, technologies for reducing petroleum use in combustion engines, including those using biofuels, as well as batteries that could be used in plug-in hybrid-electric or all electric vehicles.
