P-M Analysis - Shirose Kunio - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

P-M Analysis - Shirose Kunio - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

In this large-format implementation manual, TPM experts explain P-M Analysis. (A methodology that makes zero losses a reality in your TPM program.) P-M Analysis is designed to help your TPM teams analyze and eliminate chronic problems that have been neglected or unresolved in the past. Chronic quality defects and other chronic losses are hard to eradicate, because they typically have multiple, interrelated causes that vary with every occurrence. Common improvement strategies, like cause-and-effect analysis, are usually ineffective in dealing with such complex problems. P-M Analysis was specially developed to overcome the weaknesses of traditional methods. It offers a rigorous 8-step method for ensuring that all possible factors are identified and investigated. Through P-M Analysis, teams really get in touch with their equipment. Its unique skill-building process improves technological know-how while delivering solutions to persistent problems. The first four steps of this rigorous 8-step program help teams isolate and understand the root causes of defects and failures within main equipment mechanisms and peripheral systems. The final four steps provide a systematic approach for effectively controlling those causes. A critical concept in P-M Analysis is physical analysis -- a way of thinking about how defects and failures are generated that forces us to look at the physical principles involved and to quantify the changes in the relationship between the equipment mechanisms and product parts involved. When a proper physical analysis is carried out, teams are far less likely to overlook important factors or to waste time pursuing unrelated ones. Although not a cure-all, P-M Analysis has reduced chronic losses to zero and raised technological expertise in many manufacturing environments. This illustrated implementation manual provides a thorough step-by-step procedure for implementing P-M Analysis, along with practice exercises and graded examples. It is an unparalleled resource for anyone with a basic knowledge of TPM who is ready to fine-tune their loss-reduction activities. Here, finally, is a root-cause analysis method that will help teams achieve the ultimate goal of zero losses.

Jury Ethics - James P. Levine - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Trial by jury is one of the most important aspects of the U.S. legal system. A reflective look at how juries actually function brings out a number of ethical questions surrounding juror conduct and jury dynamics: Do citizens have a duty to serve as jurors? Might they seek exemptions? Is it acceptable for jurors to engage in after-hours research? Might a juror legitimately seek to "nullify" the outcome to express disapproval of the law? Under what conditions might jurors make a valid choice to hold out against or capitulate to their fellow jurors? Is it acceptable to form alliances? After trial, are there problems with entering into publishing contracts? Unfortunately, questions such as these have received scant attention from scholars. This book revives attention to these and other issues of jury ethics by collecting new and insightful essays along with responses from leading scholars in the field of jury studies. Brother Number One - David P Chandler - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Brother Number One - David P Chandler - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

"Excellent and absorbing.... Indispensable to any attempt to understand the Khmer Rouge." -William Shawcross New York Review of Books "A dramatic account of Pol Pot''s rise to power in 1975 and his direction of Cambodia''s autogenocide.... David Chandler has given us an absorbing and authoritative portrait of Brother Number One and a fascinating insight into Cambodia''s cruel history." —Frederick Z. Brown New York Times Book Review "This first biography of Pol Pot is valuable not just for what it tells us about Cambodia''s past, but for helping us understand the present and perhaps predict the future.... Superbly written, pioneering work. Chandler makes up for the paucity of details about Pol Pot''s life by painting a rich tableau of his times and setting out the historical context of his policies.... The only plausible portrait of the man whose gentle persona and brutal actions remain an enduring paradox." -Nayan Chanda Far Eastern Economic Review "This book is particularly welcome. Although a work of scholarship, [it] has the fast pace of a thriller.... [Chandler''s] analysis rings true, and he has no ideological axe to grind; he is willing to go where the evidence takes him." -Asian Wall Street Journal Weekly "Chandler''s gracefully written biography of the enigmatic revolutionary of this century, Saloth Sar (alias Pol Pot), deserves wide readership.... Chandler successfully walks a fine line, condemning Pol Pot and all his works, but trying to understand what motivates him.... Recommended without reservation." -Choice "No biographer could hope for a more elusive or enigmatic subject than Pol Pot. From interviews and extensive research, Chandler pieces together a riveting account of the life of this inaccessible man who was alternately mild mannered, cultivated, and genocidal.... Highly recommended." -Library Journal In Cambodia''s recent, tragic past, no figure looms larger or more ominously than that of Pol Pot. In this revised edition of the first book-length study of the man, the historian David P. Chandler throws light on the shadowy figure of Pol Pot, illuminating the ideas and behavior of this enigmatic man and his entourage against the background of post-World War II events, providing a key to understanding this horrific, pivotal period of Cambodian history.

Diversity and Complexity in Feminist Therapy - Maria P P Root - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Diversity and Complexity in Feminist Therapy - Maria P P Root - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Diversity and Complexity in Feminist Therapy is an unprecedented new book that focuses on incorporating, appreciating, and building on the differences among women. Multicultural in content and authorship, this intellectually and emotionally stimulating volume breaks new ground in the development of theory in feminist therapy. Chapters run the gamut from highly theoretical works that challenge us to examine the validity of current male, Western psychological theories, to the very personal story of one woman’s struggle with oppression and her respect for the differences between her experiences of oppression and other women’s experiences. You will also find provocative, creative, and diverse chapters that address women’s development as it relates to their ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, sexual, and age differences. The one pervasive truth throughout this unique book is that feminist therapy must be based on the experiences of all women in order to be truly representative of women in the United States. Diversity and Complexity in Feminist Therapy is a first step in moving feminist therapy to a more inclusive, global perspective and back into a more political and activist stance against the oppression that we all want to defeat. more from mq:introduces feminist therapists and other interested feminist behavioral scientists to an anti-racist and multicultural perspective on feminist therapy, both at the level of theory and practice. This volume is unique in several ways. One of them is in the emphasis on the development of a theoretical model for feminist therapy. While much has been and continues to be written about applications of feminist therapy, theory-building has been neglected. This volume focuses on the necessity of taking an explicitly anti-racist and multicultural perspective for such theory to be truly feminst.A second unique aspect--very close and detailed attention to feminist therapy practice with people of color, both within and outside of US culture. While this issue has been addressed in a piece-meal fashion elsewhere, or has been addressed primarily by activists challenging racism within feminist therapy, this volume offers the work of feminist therapists themselves applying feminist analyses and principles.Volume is also unique in the degree to which its author represent a diverse group within feminist therapy. This volume is not only multicultural in its intent, but also in its creation. America and the World: The Double Bind - Kevin P. Clements - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

America and the World: The Double Bind - Kevin P. Clements - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

As the world''s first democracy with a written constitution and Bill of Rights, the United States has stood for global aspirations toward democratic liberty, equality, and solidarity since its formation in 1776. However, as it developed into an empire by the late nineteenth century, the United States also has threatened the liberties of other peoples, including Native Americans, Hawaiians, Latin Americans, Asians, and Africans. The American role in world affairs has long been polarized around two conflicting images and strategies. In the name of counter-terrorism, the Bush administration pursued a largely unilateralist policy in the Middle East and elsewhere. Yet, in the name of protecting its national sovereignty, the United States also has rejected most of the recent multilateral treaties that strive to contain violence by fortifying the rule of international law. A unilateralist strategy also goes largely against the U.S. postwar multilateralism, which established the United Nations and its specialized agencies. This volume explores these contradictions. Contributors include: Kevin P. Clements, Tom Coffman, Audrey Kitagawa, Jeffrey F. Addicott, Steven Zunes, Vivien Stewart, Kathy Ferguson, Phyllis Turnbull, Bilveer Singh, Ibrahim G. Aoude, Richard Falk, Ann Wright, Beverley Kleever, Linda Groff, George Kent, Majid Tehranian, Mohammad Ali, Terrence Paupp, Gillian Young, Mihay Simaii, and David Krieger. The annual publication Peace & Policy, sponsored by the Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research, is now in its ninth year. It is dedicated to providing a forum for the discussion of all issues concerning peace, policy, and the rights and responsibilities of global citizenship. This latest volume fulfills that commitment.

Lectures on N_X - Jean Pierre Serre - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Lectures on N_X - Jean Pierre Serre - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

Lectures on N X (p) deals with the question on how N X (p), the number of solutions of mod p congruences, varies with p when the family (X) of polynomial equations is fixed. While such a general question cannot have a complete answer, it offers a good occasion for reviewing various techniques in l-adic cohomology and group representations, presented in a context that is appealing to specialists in number theory and algebraic geometry. Along with covering open problems, the text examines the size and congruence properties of N X (p) and describes the ways in which it is computed, by closed formulae and/or using efficient computers. The first four chapters cover the preliminaries and contain almost no proofs. After an overview of the main theorems on N X (p), the book offers simple, illustrative examples and discusses the Chebotarev density theorem, which is essential in studying frobenian functions and frobenian sets. It also reviews ℓ-adic cohomology. The author goes on to present results on group representations that are often difficult to find in the literature, such as the technique of computing Haar measures in a compact ℓ-adic group by performing a similar computation in a real compact Lie group. These results are then used to discuss the possible relations between two different families of equations X and Y. The author also describes the Archimedean properties of N X (p), a topic on which much less is known than in the ℓ-adic case. Following a chapter on the Sato-Tate conjecture and its concrete aspects, the book concludes with an account of the prime number theorem and the Chebotarev density theorem in higher dimensions.

Mission-Based Policing - John P. Crank - Bog - Taylor & Francis Inc - Plusbog.dk

The research revolution in police work has uncovered a multitude of data, but this contemporary knowledge has done very little to change the way things are done in most police departments across the U.S., where the prevalent form of policing is based on the traditional model of district assignments and random preventive patrol. Mission-Based Policing unveils a new paradigm that transitions policing away from practices that while long-held, have inadequately dealt with serious crime. Drawn from the work of scholars on the cutting edge of police research, this volume argues for a radical shift in the way policing is approached. It provides concrete recommendations for the fundamental reorganization of the policing institution and presents a comprehensive planning regimen for urban problems that encompasses security, urban reinvestment, and public planning. Introducing an innovative, practical model for problem-oriented policing in high crime areas, the book uncovers: - - Contemporary problems in urban policing today - Counter-insurgency strategy and how it might contribute to successful policing - The five central principles of mission-based policing: focus, effectiveness, deployment, integrity, and mission’s end - The concept of logical lines of operation (LOOs): planning, security, establishing/restoring essential services, and rebuilding - Strategies for police department reorganization guided by principles of mission-based policing - Potential issues raised by the concept or applications of mission-based policing, including practicality, command problems, and perceived risks - Outlining a specific methodology for police redeployment, the book highlights the importance of hot spot presence, command integrity, and fundamental organizational change that has as its end goal long term reduction in crime statistics through effective crime prevention practices.
