"This book is important for students who want to put domestic crime and justice issues and criminological theories in an international perspective....It is more than likely that this book will also interest all those who are professionally or privately interested in issues of crime, corruption, terrorism, law enforcement, criminal justice and sustainable development."— Johnson Thomas, BUSINESS INDIAIn today′s interdependent world, governments must become more transparent about their crime and justice problems. The World of Crime: Breaking the Silence on Problems of Security, Justice and Development Across the World seeks to break the "conspiracy of silence" regarding statistical information on these sensitive issues. It subsequently analyzes the macro causes of crime such as rapid urbanization, economic inequality, gender discrimination, abuse of alcohol, and drugs and availability of guns. Political Advertising in Western Democracies - Lynda Lee Died April 13 Kaid - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Political Advertising in Western Democracies - Lynda Lee Died April 13 Kaid - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

An interesting study about political advertising on TV.... The material in the book can work as a good guide for both the Ministry of information and Broadcasting (including Doordarshan bosses) and major political parties while preparing to use TV as an effective medium for the next election campaign. --The Hindustan Times "This invaluable work significantly advances the cross-national, comparative study of political advertising broadly defined. In pellucid prose, the editors and contributors identify commonalities and differences among media systems, regulations, contents, and styles and point to their likely impact and effects. It is essential reading." --David L. Paletz, Duke University In recent years, political campaigns in Western democracies have increasingly relied on television advertising to promote candidates and/or political parties. Although North America was the first to channel political messages in this way and many European campaigns have been based on the U.S. model, Political Advertising in Western Democracies highlights the differences as well as the similarities of campaigns in Western democracies. The various campaign styles, their methods, and approaches reflect the unique political and cultural traditions of each country. Viewed individually and comparatively, they formulate the first comprehensive study to date on the role that television plays in the electoral process. The chapters, written by well-known contributors, are all based on original research of the most recent campaigns in England, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, and the United States. An invaluable resource for anyone interested in this topic, Political Advertising in Western Democracies is also an ideal supplement for courses such as Survey of Political Communication, Mass Communication and Politics, International Communication, Political Advertising, Comparative Political Communication, and Political Campaigning.

What Causes Men's Violence Against Women? - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

What Causes Men's Violence Against Women? - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Carefully organized and tightly edited, this insightful book considers potential causes of men′s violence against women, utilizing a variety of theoretical perspectives. It summarizes what is known about the multiple causes of men′s violence against women and the importance of identifying men′s risk factors in order to prevent future violence. The editors′ approach is unique but systematic. In chapter 2, the editors present a preliminary multivariate model that explains men′s violence against women by identifying four content areas: macrosocietal, biological, gender role socialization, and relation factors. Within these four areas, the editors develop thirteen preliminary hypotheses about the causes of men′s violence against women. In the subsequent chapters the contributing authors critique or react to specific parts of the multivariate model and address one or more of the 13 hypotheses in the presentation of their own ideas about the causes of men′s violence against women. In the concluding chapter, the editors summarize the contributors′ reactions to the original hypotheses by creating a revised multivariate model of risk factors for men′s violence against women. The final model includes biological, socialization, psychological, psychosocial, relational, and macrosocietal factors. Furthermore, the model is explained through 13 theoretical propositions, 40 research hypotheses, and over 60 risk variables related to men′s violence against women. The book closes with a discussion of men′s protective, resiliency, and vulnerability factors as well as future directions for theory development, advocacy, and the prevention of violence against women.
