Introducing LISREL - Judy A. Siguaw - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`If you encounter a research student for whom the very word LISREL induces feelings of fear, quietly recommend that they read this book. They will thank you for it. With increasingly user-friendly versions of LISREL being released and guide books such as this published, LISREL really should be accessible to all′ - European Journal of Marketing Emphasizing substantive issues rather than intricate statistical details, this book provides a comprehensive introduction to LISREL for structural equation modeling (SEM) using a non-technical, user-oriented approach that. The emphasis is on: - exposing the reader to the major steps associated with the formulation and testing of a model under the LISREL framework - describing the key decisions associated with each step - highlighting potential problems and limitations associated with LISREL modeling - assisting the interpretation of LISREL input and output files. The overall aim is to provide a critical understanding of what is really involved in LISREL modeling and sensitize the reader against `mechanically′ fitting or modifying models. The entire range of decisions associated with the practical application of the LISREL program is covered in a user-friendly fashion. Concrete examples are used throughout to illustrate issues relating to model conceptualization, specification, identification, estimation, evaluation, modification, and cross-validation and illustrated with actual program output. The program is made much more accessible by adopting the more user-friendly SIMPLIS command language for preparing input files. Although primarily aimed at beginning users, readers are directed to further reading together with a comprehensive bibliography for the more advanced user.

Next Steps With SPSS - Eric L. Einspruch - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

"There can be no doubt that book like this is needed. The idea that the author has to provide information beyond the SPSS tutorials is invaluable. Great conversational style and good examples! I like the idea of inputting data and working through the procedures in real life. The exercises are great practice for learning and sharpening the skills described."--Geni Cowan, Educational Administration, California State University, Sacramento --Geni Cowan, Written in an easy-to-read, straightforward manner, Next Steps With SPSS introduces readers to intermediate and advanced SPSS skills. These skills are introduced and illustrated with sample programs designed to apply powerful techniques in data handling and analysis, with the output from these programs presented and interpreted. The book is organized so that it builds increasingly advanced syntax coding skills, starting with the handling of complex data files and then moving to coverage of looping and macro skills. The book then switches to more windows-oriented skills suitable for working with SPSS output (as in pivot tables and interactive graphics) and for running SPSS in an alternative mode (as in a production facility). The book returns to coding skills by introducing the more advanced topics of the scripting facility (which has broad application to handling data and creating output) and the matrix command language. Throughout the book, Einspruch provides pedagogical aids for the reader, such as: - Detailed examples provide step-by-step illustrations of each step in a procedure - End-of-chapter exercises (with solutions provided in the Appendix) - Boldface text indicates operations or choices that the reader will need to make when running SPSS - Opening chapter "alerts" give readers a quick synopsis of what they will learn as well as the recommended SPSS skill level - Chapter glossaries provide readers with a list and definition of command words covered in the chapter After reading this book, readers will be able to perform: looping functions that can be used to repeatedly perform a set of commands; the macro facility that efficiently performs complex and repetitive tasks; pivot tables that can be manipulated to display results in different ways; interactive graphics can be used to modify charts without re-running an entire procedure; the production facility that can run routine, time consuming analyses unattended; and, the matrix command language which handles matrix algebra computations and allows you to write statistical routines. "I am very positive about the topics covered. A quality reference book covering these topics in a clear and concise manner would be of considerable value. Specialized syntax files are of special interest to me, as was the chapter on production facilities. The sequencing of the chapters is logical and begins with the familiar (data files) and proceeds through to more complex issues."--David Holman, Education, Arkansas State University --David Holman,

Doing Statistics With SPSS - Howard K Hall - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

`This book is to be commended, particularly, for putting the tool of statistics into the familiar context of a research study. In so doing it emphasizes the neglected pre-analysis stages of a research study. Indeed the performing of a data analysis, this book reminds us, should be the mere icing on an already well cooked cake′ - Psychology Learning & Teaching Doing Statistics With SPSS is derived from the authors′ many years of experience teaching undergraduates data handling using SPSS. It assumes no prior understanding beyond that of basic mathematical operations and is therefore suitable for anyone undertaking an introductory statistics course as part of a science based undergraduate programme. The text will: enable the reader to make informed choices about what statistical tests to employ; what assumptions are made in using a particular test; demonstrate how to execute the analysis using SPSS; and guide the reader in his/her interpretation of its output. Each chapter ends with an exercise and provides detailed instructions on how to run the analysis using SPSS release 10. Learning is further guided by pointing the reader to particular aspects of the SPSS output and by having the reader engage with specified items of information from the SPSS results. This text is more complete than the alternatives that usually fall into one of two camps. They either provide an explanation of the concepts but no instructions on how to execute the analysis with SPSS, or they are a manual which instructs the reader on how to drive the software but with minimal explanation of what it all means. This book offers the best elements of both in a style that is economical and accessible. Doing Statistics with SPSS will be essential reading for undergraduates in psychology and health-related disciplines, and likely to be of invaluable use to many other students in the social sciences taking a course in statistics.

How to Manage, Analyze, and Interpret Survey Data - Arlene G. Fink - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

"A useful and readable introduction to data analysis and valuable resource for the nonspecialist." --Cameron Lee, Fuller Theological Seminary Clearly written with useful checklists, guidelines, and examples, How to Manage, Analyze, and Interpret Survey Data shows readers how to manage survey data and become better users and consumers of statistical and qualitative survey information. Fink explains the basic vocabulary of data management and statistics, and then demonstrates the principles and logic behind the selection and interpretation of commonly used statistical and qualitative methods to analyze survey data: from cleaning the data to measurement scales through to how to read computer output and judge significance using confidence intervals. Thoroughly reorganized and revised, the book now includes coverage of: * How to organize and manage data for analysis * How to draft an analysis plan * How to define and format a data file * How to create a complete code book, including how to establish the reliability of the coding * How to calculate the odds ratio and risk ratio * How to do the basic steps in a content analysis of qualitative data * How to recognize and deal with missing data and outliers for recoding * How to enter data accurately into spreadsheets, database management programs, and statistical programs "The author provides an excellent introductory overview to selecting appropriate statistical tests--the purposes and prerequisites for using various statistical methods." --Kathy Sexton-Radek, Elmhurst College

Program Development and Evaluation in Prevention - - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

This seventh book in the Prevention Practice Kit illustrates how carefully constructed programs are involved with reaching prevention goals. Using examples and drawing from a clearly presented framework, this book helps readers easily translate concepts of program development and evaluation (PD&E) into doable, practical steps. This book is guided by five tenets: - Prevention occurs through programs applied early. - A program is comprised of interrelated elements existing within an open system. - PD&E involves cyclical phases of planning, implementation and effects, while being infused by the processes of community, collaboration, and cultural relevance. - Conducting prevention PD&E relies on both technical and people skills. - Effective programs depend on sound processes that are guided by an overall 10-step PD&E in Prevention Model, which include planning the program, implementing process evaluation, and evaluating output. This book is part of the Prevention Practice Kit: Action Guides for Mental Health , a collection of eight books each authored by scholars in the specific field of prevention and edited by Dr. Robert K. Conyne and Dr. Arthur M. Horne. The books in the collection conform to the editors′ outline to promote a consistent reading experience. Understanding Management Research - Phil Johnson - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

Understanding Management Research - Phil Johnson - Bog - SAGE Publications Inc - Plusbog.dk

′These sections represent the clearest rendition yet of these subjects, with difficult concepts introduced in a digestible form for the neophytic (or not so neophytic) researcher. Whilst in a book this size not every argument can be presented, there is ample extra material to be found to encourage further engagement… At the end of each chapter, there is a very useful Further Reading section provided by the authors, which gives useful guidelines. I believe to be an extremely useful text, which addresses what has until now been a significant gap in the market. This book will be my first choice in the future for introducing doctoral students of management-related subject to the philosophical underpinning they require for their studies. There is no other text which covers this area so clearly, so succinctly and in language that is readily accessible to a wide range of researcher back-grounds. I can enviSAGE this being a valuable source book to which researchers return again and again in order to deepen their understanding as research projects progress; it certainly provoked some new questions for me. To conclude, an excellent buy′ - International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation This is an invaluable introduction for all students and researchers of management confronting a new research project. Understanding Management Research provides an overview of the principal epistemological debates in social science and how these lead to and are expressed in different ways of conceiving and undertaking organizational research. For researchers and students who are increasingly expected to adopt a reflexive understanding of their own epistemological position, the authors present a concise, accessible guide to the different perspectives available and their implications for research output. All students undertaking empirical research for theses and dissertations will find this book helps them comprehend the key ongoing debates and engage with their own pre-understandings when trying to make sense of management and organizations.
