Franco Cesarini has written this piece for concert band as a tribute to the town of Bisacquino (Palermo, Italy) of which he is an honorary citizen. TheSuite Siciliana, a 7-movement piece - Intrada, Pavana I>, Gavotta, Barcarola, Tambourin, Siciliana, Tarantella - is characterised by contrasting rhythms and tempo, and consists of these 7 dances. The musical form, typical of the Baroque period, refers to some traditional expressions of art from the land of Sicily: ranging from the rich architecture of the Sicilian Baroque to the colorful majolica ceramics and the characteristic puppets, the "pupi", which narrate a secular tradition. A full immersion into ancient traditions of this beautiful island!

Symphony Nr. 3 Urban Landscapes Op. 55 : for Wind Orchestra, Additional European Parts

Fascinated by the beauty of Chicago, Franco Cesarini has translated his emotions into music: this is how Symphony No. 3 “Urban Landscapes” Op. 55, was born, a musical portrait of this metropolis overlooking Lake Michigan. The composition is divided into three movements: The Wrigley Building from Dawn to Noon, Blue Silhouette and Cloud Gates, which by sharing the same thematic material arranged in cyclical form, strengthen the overall cohesion of the piece. The first movement, preceded by a short slow introduction in which the main theme is presented in an almost dreamlike form, metaphorically represents the city at dawn. The sudden change of time symbolizes the start of activities with all its noises and sounds: you can hear the bell that announces the closing of the subway doors, the sound of cars speeding by, the siren of a patrol car. If the first movement represents the day, the second introduces a nocturnal environment: a melancholic melody played by the English horn anticipates a more animated tempo depicting melodies coming from jazz clubs. Powerful fanfares that take up the second theme of the first movement introduce the third movement. In this finale, the role of the two themes is reversed compared to the first movement and one takes the place of the other in a kind of games of mirrors. Bright Dawn Overture was commissioned to Franco Cesarini by the Swiss Band Association as part of a project for the renewal and expansion of the artistic repertoire. “There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.”. This sentence by the English philosopher Bernard Williams inspired Franco Cesarini in composing this overture. In fact, even the darkest night is always followed by the sunrise and metaphorically, in every moment of difficulty, man clings to the hope of a better future. Bright Dawn Overture is written in the classic form of an Italian overture (fast-slow-fast). It is intended as a hymn of hope of recovery after a period of great difficulty. A single theme characterizes the composition, passing through the various registers and presents itself in new forms, while constantly being transformed. In the central part the theme takes on an almost mystical character, while in the finale it presents itself in a heroic guise and the composition concludes with a gesture of decisive optimism. A piece accessible to most concert bands, perfect as an opening work!

A piece characterised by skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form.Le Cortège du Roi Renaud is a suite in five parts based on tales that originate in southern European folk songs dating back as far as the 16th century.Pastorale de Provence, a suite in four movements, was written by Franco Cesarini in memory of the great Provençal composer Darius Milhaud. As the title says, Greek Folk Dances is entirely in the sign of Greek dances starting with a kalamatianos, followed by a zeibekiko. The piece ends with a hasapiko.A perfect mix of new and less new repertoire, perfectly composed and arranged for double wind quintet by Franco Cesarini and beautifully performed by the Rovereto Wind Ensemble!
