Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines - James Moody - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines - James Moody - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

This new volume, Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines: A Practical Reference for Engineers and Professionals , focuses on design and installation of laboratory gas pipelines. It instructs design engineers, laboratory managers, and installation technicians on how to source the information and specifications they require for the design and installation of laboratory gas systems suitable for their intended use. The current use of specifications predominantly taken from medical gas standards for this type of work is not always suitable; these standards are for use with medical grade gases that have a purity level of 99.5%. The purity levels required in laboratories, however, start at 99.9% for general industrial use through to 99.9995% (Ultra High Purity (UHP)) and higher. Regular medical gas standards are also unsuitable for use with the oxidizing, flammable, and, in some instances, toxic gases that are regularly encountered in laboratories. As need for gas purity increases, the methodology used to design a piping system must vary to meet those parameters, and this reference provides the necessary information and resources. There are no comprehensive single sources of technical references currently available in this market, states the author, and the generally supplied specifications provided to the construction industry are usually generic and not specifically targeted for the gases in use. The results provide extremely poor quality designs and, in some instances, unusable systems. With over 40 years of specialization in the industry from project management to systems design, testing, and commissioning of projects with values in excess of $15 million, the author comprehensively fills that gap with this rich resource. Key features • provides information on types of laboratories that use laboratory gases and the equipment needed • explains the various methods of construction and the materials used to ensure that the purity of the gases remains as supplied from the manufacturers • incorporates the design methodology used to meet the various requirements of the laboratory and the information required to ensure that the correct engineering is provided • presents information on the purity levels of the gases and the data on the equipment used for pipelines and compatibility issues • presents an example of a simple laboratory gas specification that provides guidelines on the information necessary to provide a set of design documents

Diffusion-Driven Wavelet Design for Shape Analysis - Tingbo Hou - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

From Design Methods and Generation Schemes to State-of-the-Art Applications Wavelets are powerful tools for functional analysis and geometry processing, enabling researchers to determine the structure of data and analyze 3D shapes. Suitable for researchers in computer graphics, computer vision, visualization, medical imaging, and geometric modeling as well as graduate and senior undergraduate students in computer science, Diffusion-Driven Wavelet Design for Shape Analysis presents recent research results in wavelet designs on 3D shapes and their applications in shape analysis. It explains how to apply the design methods to various types of 3D data, such as polygonal meshes, point clouds, manifolds, and volumetric images. Extensions of Wavelet Generation on Volumetric and Manifold Data The first part of the book introduces design methods of wavelets on manifold data, incorporating interdisciplinary knowledge from differential geometry, functional analysis, Fourier transform, spectral graph theory, and stochastic processes. The authors show how wavelets are purely determined by the shape geometry and how wavelet transforms are computed as inner products of wavelet kernels and input functions. Wavelets for Solving Computer Graphics Problems The second part presents applications in shape analysis/representation. The book looks at wavelets as spectral tools for geometry processing with filters in a joint space-frequency domain and examines wavelets as detail extractors for shape feature definition and detection. Going beyond these fundamental applications, the book also covers middle- and high-level applications, including shape matching, shape registration, and shape retrieval. Easy-to-Understand Implementations and Algorithms Unlike many other wavelet books, this one does not involve complicated mathematics. Instead, the book uses simplified formulations and illustrative example

Closed Circuit Trickle Irrigation Design - - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Closed Circuit Trickle Irrigation Design - - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Closed circuit trickle irrigation is a form of micro irrigation that increases energy and water efficiency by using closed circuit drip irrigation systems designs. Modifications are made to traditional micro irrigation methods to reduce some of the problems and constraints, such as low compressor water at the end of irrigation lines. This approach has proved successful for the irrigation of fruit trees and some vegetable and field crops. Closed circuits of drip irrigation systems require about half of the water needed by sprinkler or surface irrigation. Lower operating pressures and flow rates result in reduced energy costs, and a higher degree of water control is attainable as well. Plants can be supplied with more precise amounts of water, and disease and insect damage is reduced because plant foliage stays dry. Fertilizers can also be applied through this type of system, which can result in a reduction of fertilizer and fertilizer costs. This new volume in the Research Advances in Sustainable Micro Irrigation book series presents a diverse collection of research on closed circuit irrigational technology and design and provides studies of its use on such crops as wheat, maize, yellow corn, soybeans, rice, and snap peas. The book explores: • Soil moisture and salinity distributions under modified sprinkler irrigation • Performance of sprinkler irrigation • Design considerations for closed circuit drip irrigation systems • Performance of bubbler irrigation • Energy and water savings of drip irrigation systems • Automation of mini-sprinkler and drip irrigation systems • Water and fertilizer use efficiencies for drip irrigated maize • Evaluation of emitter clogging for drip irrigated systems This book will be valuable for those interested in irrigation planning and management, namely, researchers, scientists, educators, upper-level students, agricultural extension services, and others.

Employer's Guide to Medical Tourism Benefit Design - Maria K. Todd - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Health travel, domestic and international, for the group health benefit sector is an established cost containment option that was for years, used primarily by reinsurers and case management firms and limited to rare, high-cost, tertiary care. Through the use of cost-saving benefit design incentives, employers are testing the receptiveness of plan participants and encouraging plan members to consider a narrow network of high-performance healthcare providers in targeted locations that may be located further from home. In addition to foreign medical tourism, this has given rise to another emerging market - domestic medical tourism. Unlike foreign medical tourism, patients don''t leave the country. Instead they travel to another city with the U.S. to have procedures for upt to 75% less than they would pay if they were treated closer to home. Large employers such as Wal-Mart, Lowe''s and Pepsi Co are offering employees and dependents heart, spine and transplant surgeries at large medical facilities such as John Hopkins and the Cleveland Clinic, regardless of where they are located in the U.S. This book addresses how to design and launch a health travel benefit pilot program, plan funding options, quality, safety and logistic considerations, provider selection criteria, and bundled case rate contracting in the USA and abroad. The author also includes many worksheets, checklists and forms to use when designing a health travel benefit program.

Competitive Innovation and Improvement - Kieron Dey - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Competitive Innovation and Improvement - Kieron Dey - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

Competitive Innovation and Improvement: Statistical Design and Control explains how to combine two widely known statistical methods—statistical design and statistical control—in a manner that can solve any business, government, or research problem quickly with sustained results. Because the problem-solving strategy employed is pure scientific method, it makes integration into any existing problem-solving or research method quite simple. The material in the book is presented in a manner that anyone can read and immediately put to use, including executives, managers, statisticians, scientists, engineers, researchers, and all of their supervisors and employees. Organizations can apply the concepts discussed with existing staff to release latent energy rather than adding to their workload. Optional footnotes provide the opportunity for more advanced technical insight. Supplying readers with an understanding of orthogonal design, the book illustrates key ideas through large-scale case studies. The book’s 12 case studies examine the coupling of statistical design with economic control across a range of industries and problem types. The book suggests the real world, rather than mathematics alone, to reveal how things work and how to make them work better . Innovation and improvement by design is explained , which will help readers open up left-brain analytics to more right-brain creativity. Although mathematics (as advanced as needed to solve the problem) is used throughout the text, it is translated into simple arithmetic without any mathematical notation. The book limits references to a few essential texts and papers that readers can refer to as they become more experienced in statistical design and control.

The Framework for Innovation - H. James Harrington - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

The Framework for Innovation - H. James Harrington - Bog - Apple Academic Press Inc. - Plusbog.dk

The innovation infrastructure and master plan described in this book offers a detailed and comprehensive approach to one of the most difficult and challenging problems facing entrepreneurs involved in innovation at any scale enterprise: the problem of how to govern your organization’s innovation initiatives in the middle of turbulent change. Progress in any field requires the development of a framework, a structure that organizes the accumulating knowledge, enables people to master it, and unifies the key discoveries into a set of principles that makes them understandable and actionable. For starters, successful innovation requires an integrated design process, beginning with integration in the design of the enterprise, the design of the product, along with the design and implementation of new technologies. Such an integrated design effort requires good collaboration and management of the design framework, and should be supported by efficient knowledge management techniques and tools; If innovation is to help a business grow and improve its competitiveness, it is also important to plan the innovation carefully. This book provides a holistic, multidisciplinary framework that will enable your organization and its leaders to take a strategic approach to innovation. The framework combines non-traditional, creative approaches to business innovation with conventional strategy development models. The framework model brings together perspectives from many complementary disciplines: the non-traditional approaches to innovation found in the business creativity movement; multiple-source strategy consulting; the new product development perspective of many leading industrial design firms; qualitative consumer/customer research; future-based research found in think tanks and traditional scenario planning; and organizational development (OD) practices that examine the effectiveness of an organization’s culture, processes, and structure. Though some ideas may just "fall from the sky" or "come out of the blue", an organization should also have a strategic vision of how the business and the enterprise will successfully develop. It should not just wait for the innovation to arrive arbitrarily, but rather proactively plan for innovation incorporating market trends, the competitive landscape, new technology availability, and changes in customer preferences and trends in order to create a flexible in-house innovation process. Such an enterprise will also pro-actively manage the knowledge supply chain that supports innovation, as outlined in this book #7 of Management Handbook for Results series. The framework outlined in this handbook consists of a well-integrated cohesive set of practices that inspires imaginative innovation teams to look beyond the obvious and explore a broad range of possibilities to identify significant opportunities and make informed decisions about the most promising paths to pursue. The goal is to create a shared vision for growth, along with defining pragmatic action plans that bridge from the future back to the present, while attempting to align the organization around the requirements for success.
