Xenonauts is a production belonging to the genre of turn-based strategies, largely drawing on solutions known from X-COM: UFO Defense and X-COM: Terror from the Deep. The independent development team of Goldhawk Interactive is responsible for its development.The producers do not hide that they created their work based on the mechanics known from the X-COM series. In order to adapt the gameplay system to the requirements of modern players, however, they subjected it to several significant modifications.The action of Xenonauts begins on October 1, 1979. It was then that a dangerous race of aliens launched an unexpected invasion of Earth, in which the unsuspecting inhabitants fell into unimaginable panic. The governments of all countries decided to join forces and establish a military organization that would be able to oppose the aggressor. In this way, the structures of the Xenonauts group were created, whose agents began activities aimed at aliens. The game, unlike the futuristic X-COM, is entirely kept in the Cold War convention, which is reflected, among others, in in the use of a distinctive style of graphic design.The person playing Xenonauts takes the lead of the organization and oversees the struggle of mankind against the dangerous invaders. Following the example of X-COM, the game has been divided into several separate parts: managing the base, expanding the army and conducting various types of research on new technologies, browsing the map of the Earth (so-called Geoscape), analyzing the current situation and searching for enemy units in order to exterminate them, as well as the fight itself, fought both in a turn-based system on the surface of the planet (up to 16 player units) and in real time in space. The latter element greatly distinguishes Xenonauts from its great predecessor, making the game even more extensive.As part of the game, the producers implemented an advanced system of artificial intelligence, randomly generated battlefields (with fully destructible surroundings), as well as a large number of different opponents, requiring the use of different tactics. Xenonauts also has extensive missions, each with many different goals. Xenonauts only offers single player gameplay.
